Volunteer Training Administration Support

Introduction

Opening Doors London (ODL) is the biggest charity providing information and support services with and for older Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans* and Queer + (LGBT+) people in the UK. Established in 2008 ODL now operates across all of London. We offer support through social groups and activities, special events and befriending services. We operate an extensive volunteer service, and work with strategic partners to promote and support our service. Our mission is to combat and overcome loneliness and isolation in LGBTQ+ communities in London and beyond.

Role Outline:

  • Working cooperatively with the ODL Training Team to support our official training programmes to our customers and other engaged partners
  • Being a valued member of our training team as part of our Reach Out and Open Doors training scheme

Duties

  • Providing administration support to trainers who will be delivering training as part of a training team to people in the housing, health and social care fields
  • Ensuring availability of materials, technical equipment and facilities for pre-booked ODL training sessions either in Tavis House or sites around London
  • Helping maintain the booking diary and communicating new bookings to the training team
  • Sending out marketing material to potential customers

Personal qualities most suited to the role

This role does not require any formal qualifications, however, a friendly approach and the ability to engage effectively with the ODL team and others who deliver services to older LGBT+ people is required.

The role would suit someone with a keen interest in working to improve the services delivered to older LGBT* people within mainstream provision. No prior knowledge of the subject matter is required as training will be given. However, the ability to develop and maintain basic administration systems is essential.

There is a requirement to undertake induction training and follow guidelines and policies of Opening Doors London and the successful candidate will be expected to work to the standards of information governance set out in the relevant ODL policies. This will protect client, staff and volunteer confidentially and security of personal information.

  • Successful candidates will be able to operate flexibly as part of the ODL operations team in which most of the paid members work part time hours and whose responsibilities sometimes overlap
  • Successful candidates will have the ability to volunteer using own initiative as required
  • Successful candidates will be well organised and be able to prioritise tasks
