Overall purpose of volunteer role:

We need a volunteer to make welcome calls to all our participants who have signed up to run for Diabetes UK in the Bupa Great Runs Series of events in 2014. The volunteer would need to establish whether the participant wishes to run, whether any more fundraising advice is needed, or if they do not wish to run, a gentle ask would be needed to see if they wish to change their mind, explaining the difference they can make, etc.

The outcome of the call would then need to be updated on the database.

About theBupa EventsTeam

The Bupa Events Team sits within the Community and National Events team in the Fundraising Directorate. It consists of the Bupa Events Manager and Bupa Events Assistant. The team has existed for just over 2 years, as Diabetes UK is the nominated charity for the Bupa Great Run Series. The Partnership is now in its 3rd year and hoping for the biggest and best year yet.

Main elements of volunteer role:

  • Make welcome calls to all participants for each run
  • Follow up welcome calls as appropriate
  • Update the database with the outcome of each call
  • Make a secondary call to all participants before each run

Timescales:We hope that you will be able to volunteer for:

  • 1-2 days - flexible –preferably Tuesday and Thursday but this can be negotiated to suit the situation.
  • Hours: 9-5, 10-6 – but this can be flexible.
  • Initially for a 1 - 2 month period with the opportunity for extension. It will be reviewed after 2 months.

What we are looking for:

  • Someone able to commit to the agreed hours and provide reliable support
  • Someone who is confident on the phone and happy to chat to all ages
  • Someone who has database experience (desirable but not necessary)

The work you do for us is important to us and we value the rights that may exist in any work which you undertake. In some cases, it may be vital that we own and can prove we own such rights. Accordingly, we may ask you to complete, sign and return a separate assignment of such rights.

The purpose of this role description is to set out the expectations of both parties. It is not the intention of either party that the volunteering has the purpose or effect of creating a legally binding contract or an employment relationship between parties.
