Volunteer Role:Community Heritage Volunteer

Role Description:To support and assist with the development of new community engagement programmes and research audience development. Volunteers are needed to help with information gathering tasks, event support, evaluation support, marketing support, and general day-to-day administrative tasks.

The role may include:

-Data collection through questionnaires, interviews and surveys

-Support with online marketing through social media platforms such as Twitter, Facebook and Instagram

-Supporting community events at Charlton House, Greenwich Heritage Centre and offsite in the local area

-Assisting with collections research

-Assisting community members to complete feedback

Background:The Royal Greenwich Heritage Trust formed in 2014 in partnership with the Royal Borough of Greenwich to bring together community assets and buildings within the borough, these include Charlton House, Greenwich Heritage Centre, Tudor Barn and several memorials.As a new Trust this is an exciting time to join the team and help shape our overall aim: to share the history and heritage of the Borough with as many people as possible across the heritage sites and outreach. We are keen to conduct research with the local community to assess best methods of widening our audience, and better understanding of how to meet their needs.

As a Community Heritage Volunteer, you will help to bring stories to life using the Trust’s built heritage, collections, archives and documents. You will assist with audience participation, evaluation, workshop support, marketing and a range of other tasks.

Desired skills:It would be advantageous to have some experience of and/or be keen to develop the following:

-Excellent communication skills and a warm, friendly approach

-Engaging the public with(in) a heritage setting

-Some knowledge of the Trust and core values

-Using social media platforms effectively

-Contribute as part of a team and individually

-Use a handling collection/ providing information about objects

-A positive, consistence approach to tasks

Notes:A basic DBS may be required for this role. We ask that you commit a minimum of 6 months to this volunteer role, and at least one day fortnightly. Volunteers are entitled to claim up to £10 per return journey upon completion of a minimum of 3 hours support.
