VOLUNTEER POSITION - ALBERTA GAMES MISSION STAFF

The Alberta Sport Connection invites applications for the volunteer position of Zone 1 - Chef de Mission for the 2016 Alberta Summer Games (July 14 - 17, 2016 in the City of Leduc).

Listed below are the qualifications and qualities we are looking for in potential candidates:

·  Involvement with a Provincial Sport/Recreation Association, or related sport/recreation organization such as a Provincial Sport Development Centre

·  Knowledge of the Alberta amateur sport system

·  Enthusiasm & interest in Alberta Games & working in a multi-sport environment

·  Willingness & ability to commit to pre-Games preparation & availability during Games

·  Ability to operate independently & in a team environment

·  Willingness to provide excellent service to assigned Zone and Mission staff team

·  Strong interpersonal, communication & organizational skills

·  High energy, positive attitude & multi-task oriented

Applications must be received by Friday, April 22, 2016. Final selection and notification will occur by May 2016. Applicants may be called upon for a personal or telephone interview, and be required to submit a police records check before their position is confirmed.

MISSION STAFF RESPONSIBILITIES

The Alberta Games Mission Staff provide the primary link between all components of the Alberta Games organizational structure and the Zone team to which they are assigned. As part of the Mission Staff team, Zone Chefs are the key contacts for the Zone teams leading up to, during and immediately following the Games. This approach enables participants (including athletes, coaches and chaperones) to concentrate on preparing for and competing at the Alberta Games.

Pre-Games Roles for the Zone Chef

·  Attend Mission Staff meetings (mandatory)

·  June 29 – Mission Staff Meeting #1

·  July 13 – Mission Staff Meeting #2 & Venue Tour

·  July 14 – 17 Alberta Summer Games

·  August – Mission Staff Debrief Meeting

·  Become familiar with the structure and organization of Alberta Games as well as the Alberta Games rules and guidelines, including sports/activities participating, participant eligibility, Code of Conduct, registration, etc.

·  Gain clear understanding of the sports’ technical packages, and procedures affecting your assigned Zone’s involvement in the Alberta Games, including disciplinary and protest procedures

·  Provide link between assigned Zone team and the Host community volunteers, and other Mission staff

·  Communicate pertinent Alberta Games information to the Zone team, field questions, provide clarification and assist with issues if they arise

·  Assist the ASC Sport Liaisons, other Mission staff and coaches/chaperones with administrative requirements, e.g. registration, distribution of Zone ID, media profile forms, travel arrangements, etc. and other related duties as needed

At the Games Roles for the Zone Chef

·  Attend in-person Alberta Games registration and provide updates to the Sport Liaisons and/or Host community consultants

·  Attend daily Mission Staff meetings

·  Attend competitions for assigned Zones

·  Assist Zone participants with administrative details and communicate to them matters related to Alberta Games policies and procedures

·  Assist Zone coaches with protest procedures, if required

·  Assist with emergency situations and issues to ensure athletes/coaches concentrate on their competition

·  Attend the entire Alberta Games

·  Thursday July 14 – Sunday July 17 (including one full day in advance)

Post-Games Roles for the Zone Chef

·  Complete a Mission Staff evaluation

·  Follow up on any outstanding matters with the Zone team resulting from the Games

·  Attend Post-Games evaluation meeting – August 2016 (tentative)
