ALIEN INVASION!!

At 2:00 AM on Sunday, January 1, 2017a vessel of unknown origin appeared on the radars of NATO defense systems. These contacts were confirmed by contacts in the People’s Republic of China and the Russian Federation. At 2:12 AM this vessel entered Earth’s atmosphere and approached the city of New York, NY. At certain points on the approach towns were attacked by weapons whose power has previously been inconceivable. Scientists at the United States National Science Academy issued a statement claiming the technology is beyond the capabilities of any known civilization and believe the destruction of these towns was intended to serve as a demonstration of power.

At 6:00 AM EST world leaders received a message from the unknown vessel. According to the message, the commander of the vessel is Commodore Yrrep. He claims to represent a foreign power from the other side of the Milky Way Galaxy called Setats Detinu. This power desires to trade with the people of Earth. According to Commodore Yrrep, they are a kind of human that is slightly more evolved than Earthlings. They desire peace and harmony in the galaxy and only want to establish peaceful trade relations and exchange of ideas with the Earth. Commodore Yrrep has given the people of Earth one year to consider the conditions and agree to trade. However, Yrrep has claimed that if the people of Earth do not agree, he will return in one year with over 1,000 similar ships of Setats Detinu and will establish trade by force. Yrrep provided evidence from Anihc- the nearest inhabited planet to Earth. Anihc resisted interference by outsiders and their planet was totally taken over by aliens. Aidni is another planet taken over by planets allied with Setats Detinu. No planet in this part of the galaxy has successfully resisted them.

After meeting with his advisers, at 6:00 AM President Obama has presented two possible courses of action:

Choice 1
We agree to act as the representatives of Earth and try to become more like the aliens. We set up a new form of government where we can rule the entire Earth as one unit (based on the model of the United Nations and possibly alien models). We negotiate as favorable a trade agreement with Setats Detinu as possible. We would overhaul our educational system to study Setats Detinu language, beliefs, math and science. We then take the best and the brightest scientists and researchers and we send them to Setats Detinu to study and learn their technology. That way, when these scholars have mastered alien ways, they can return to Earth and help us build these new, impressive weapons. As a powerful planet we will be less likely to be taken over by other planets and could maybe even benefit from other planets ourselves. / Choice 2
People have lived in different cultures with different traditions and languages throughout history. We do not need to focus on becoming more like these unknown aliens, no matter how dominant they are. People would rather die resisting alien oppression than change the very nature of who they are. Why speak new languages and live on entirely new planets? We probably can’t even comprehend the level of changes that will be necessary to compete with Setats Detinu society. We already have technology enough that we could destroy the world, why do we need to dedicate our lives in the pursuit of new technologies whose consequences are totally unknown? President Obama should ask the military to prepare all the weapons they have and try to coordinate with other nations, but no other change is necessary.
