Vocal Audition Instructions
Voice/Choral Education Majors
If you would like to audition to be a vocal music major, auditions are March 4th and May 6th. To request an audition, please email Dr. Clarissa Davis () with your intent to audition.
In an introductory email, please include:
- Full Name
- Voice Type
- High School or College last attended
- A brief summary of your experience as a vocalist
- Preferred audition day
- Do you read music?
- Do you play any instruments?
In the weeks leading up the audition, you will receive an email with the time slot for your audition. You will be asked to confirm the audition in writing.
For your audition, you should prepare two (2) contrasting selections. Selections could be art song, Broadway solo, folk song, hymn, etc. – please, no arias for students under the age of twenty-one with less than four semesters collegiate voice instruction. Please provide sheet music of your solo. If the accompaniment is exceptionally difficult, please send a copy of your music in advance.
Additionally, some simple ear training and musicianship may be accessed.
Your audition will also serve as a scholarship audition.
Choir Auditions
If you would like to audition to be a member of the choir, chamber choir, or clefs, auditions are March 4th and May 6th. To request an audition, please email Andrew Head () with your intent to audition.

Audition Results
All results are dependent upon successful application and admission to Hinds Community College. Results of acceptance as a vocal music major or a member of the Collegiate Choir will be emailed within seven calendar days. Results for the Chamber Choir and Clefs will be available during the month of May. Scholarship offerings will be emailed with acceptance as a major or a member of a vocal ensemble.
