  1. Learning Target- A goal for what the class should have learned by the end of the day/lesson.
  2. Superstition- Believing in supernatural event, result, or action with no evidence that it is true. (Ghosts, seeing a black cat, breaking a mirror etc…)
  3. Infer- To make a guess using evidence
  4. Delinquent- A young person who gets in a lot of trouble.
  5. Paraphrase-Summarizing or restating something in your own words.
  6. Envy- To be jealous of, wanting what someone else has.
  7. Frieze- A sculpture or painted decoration
  8. Solstice- The longest or shortest part of the year, when the sun is either the highest (summer) or the lowest (winter)
  9. Cite- Quoting text as evidence
  10. Eavesdrop- To listen in on a conversation when you shouldn’t
  11. Pulverize- To defeat, or crush someone/something completely.
  12. Conjugate- To give different forms, like verb tenses.
  13. Vitally- Very important, necessary
  14. Stele- An upright stone, like a headstone
  15. Hallucination- Seeing things that aren’t actually there
  16. Kleptomaniac- Someone who is always stealing things
  17. Deliberately- Something done on purpose
  18. Miffed- Annoyed, or upset
  19. Scowled- To frown in an angry way
  20. Expulsion- Forcing someone to leave, like being expelled or suspended
  21. Vivid- Strong and clear images in the mind
  22. Dyslexia- Difficulty reading words, letters, and symbols
  23. Incinerate- To destroy by burning
  24. Primitive- Early, basic stages of life and development
  25. Gingerly- Very carefully
  26. Pseudonym- A fake name, usually used by an author
  27. Endeavor- Trying hard to reach a goal
  28. Prominently- Easily seen, stands out clearly
  29. Maiming- To injure severely, so badly it may lead to death
  30. Skewered- To run through (with something like a spear or shish-kebab)
  31. Liability- Being responsible for something, usually by law
  32. Elated- Very happy and excited
  33. Flanked- On the side of something, guarding or defending, often used in the military
  34. Cantered- The movement of a horse between a trot and gallop (what humans would consider a jog)
  35. Glumly- Feeling sad or depressed
  36. Carnage- The killing of a large number of people (like the destructions of war)
  37. Melancholy- Very sad and unhappy (A synonym to glum)
  38. Foreshadowing- Predicting a future event, a warning about what is to come
  39. Misnomer- The wrong use of a name
  40. Alliteration- The repetition of the same letter or sound in 2 or more words next to each other
  41. Onomatopoeia- A word that is a sound (like boom, pop, crackle)
  42. Simile- A comparison using like or as
  43. Impertinent- Not showing respect, rude
  44. Humane- Showing kindness, and having sympathy for (usually when talking about animals)
  45. Decency/Decent- Good behavior, not outstanding or bad, just decent
  46. Marveled- Be filled with amazement, awe, or astonishment
  47. Ignorant-Lacking knowledge, or uneducated
  48. Deception- Tricking or misleading someone
  49. Oblige- To require someone to do something
  50. Indignation- Annoyance or anger (usually because of unfair treatment)
  51. Vagrants- A homeless person who wanders from place to place
  52. Adjective- A word that describes a noun
  53. Adverb- Modifies (describes) another adverb, adjective or noun. Answers questions like how, where and when
  54. Skeptically- Having doubts or mistrust of someone
  55. Proposition/Propose- A suggested plan or agreement
  56. Defunct- No longer existing, unused, run-down
  57. Marooned- Someone trapped in a place they can not escape
  58. Trajectory- The path of a flying object
  59. Mystified- Confused or unsure
  60. Impeding- Delay, stop or prevent
  61. Tinkered-Repair or improve something
  62. Gruff-Someone speaking in a rough and low voice
  63. Grazed- To touch or rub lightly in passing
  64. Sputtering- Soft explosive sounds, or spitting out words/sounds that you can’t understand
  65. Dissipating-Scatter, dissolve, or disappear
  66. Scribe-A person who keeps records or writes things down
  67. Ritual- A religious ceremony or repeated act that has meaning and purpose
  68. Perimeter-The border or outside space
  69. Area- The amount of space inside a border
  70. Whim- A sudden desire or change of mind (unusual or unexpected)
  71. Notion-A feeling, or idea about something
  72. Apprehensive- Anxious or fearful that something bad will happen
  73. Disposition- Inherent qualities, or personality
  74. Adhere- Stick to
  75. Solemn- Serious, not cheerful
  76. Beckon- Motion, or gesture with the hand to come near or follow
  77. Haughty- Arrogant, Prideful (Thinking you’re better than other people)
  78. Immense- Extremely large
  79. Ambiguous- Has a double meaning, unclear
  80. Throng- A large densely packed crowd
  81. Anomaly- Something different than what was expected
  82. Dystopian-Imagined place where everything is unpleasant or bad
  83. Perforate-To pierce with small holes (the edges of a page might be perforated)
  84. Scabbard- A sheath for a sword
