Vista is a charity that is dedicated to improving the lives of people with sight loss in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland. Vista’s vision is a world in which people with sight loss of all ages have choice and control over their lives and no-one experiences avoidable sight loss.

We have a Support Worker opportunity available at our Applegarth Home in Leicester Forest East to support people who have learning difficulties and a visual impairment.

You will be required to work 25 hours per week and flexibly over a 24 hour period seven days a week, including bank holidays and 2 out of 3 weekends.

Sleeping-in duties, as required for which, an additional payment will be made.

Previous experience of working with people in a residential or health setting is desirable but not essential as full training will be provided.

You will be responsible for providing a high quality of emotional, physical and social support to people who live in the Home, respecting and upholding the rights and wishes of each individual, according to individual support plans. This will include your ability to demonstrate compassion, adaptability and integrity.

Qualifications & Training
  • Level 2 qualification in Health & Social Care or equivalent or above or willing to work towards a Level 2 diploma in Health & Social Care.

  • Previous experience of working with people with a sight loss and/or learning disabilities.
  • Previous experience of working with people in a residential or health setting.

Skills & Knowledge
  • Ability to work on own initiative and as a member of a team to support service needs.
  • Ability to work with people to enable them to be in control of their own lives.
  • Display a practice which shows a high regard for people, their property and their rights.
  • Ability to work closely with people and their families.
  • To respect people’s privacy, dignity, choice and confidentiality at all times.

  • Knowledge of Key Worker or similar system

Personal Qualities
  • Excellent communication skills – written and verbal.
  • Show empathy, compassion and be committed.
  • Prioritise workload.
  • Ability to be able to support people when out in the community using a range of transport.

Other
  • Must be prepared to work unsocial hours.
  • Ability to assist with moving and handling of individuals and equipment.
  • Willingness to take part in and help organise activities in and outside the home.

  • Experience of public relations or fundraising with the local community.
  • Hold a current Driving Licence and own transport.
  • Knowledge of moving and handling techniques and equipment.
