S.I.T. Meeting Minutes

Mrs. Velasquez
Welcomed everyone and reviewed the Agenda for today’s meeting. The Young Rembrandts: It is an art class that will come in to our school they provide all the supplies and provide a Teacher as well. The cost is about $60.00 for a 6week period. We would need to provide a space and a place to display the art work. Update Webpages as soon as possible it is a perfect opportunity to communicate with your parents such as your class schedule what you are teaching for the 9wks etc. Mrs. Velasquez addressed bulletin boards. Make sure you have student work samples and switch it out every three weeks. Customer service survey every time a parent comes in to the campus they will be given a customer service survey. Mr. Miranda and Mrs. Velasquez will be the only ones to see the responses. This is a district initiative they will be providing a box where the parents will be able to place their customer service response. District personal will be coming in to speak to the staff regarding the boundary changes on February 15, 2016. A parent community meeting will be scheduled at a later date. Teacher money is made during the dances that we have. From now on P.E will be going on throughout Dance days. Teachers will go into the dance and cover as soon as their conference periods ends. One teacher will stay back from each grade level to stay with the kids that will not be attending. The two assistant coaches will take in the students that will not attend the dance for first, Second and third grade. School Uniform was reviewed about wearing jeans for students. Need to be specific on the dress code please share back with the grade level to see what are their thoughts in having just uniformpants or to include jeans for next year. Please go back to your grade level and ask what their thoughts are about having a PLC on a weekly basis. SIT reps need to report back to Mrs. Velasquez and respond by Friday.

Mr. Miranda shared our EOP plans with the Committee. He shared the new template that has been set in place for this school year. The Team took a tour of the campus with all shut down valves and switches in case of emergency. Meeting with the EOP team once every nine weeks. CIP Plan reviewed.

EPAC= Mrs. Torres reports that during EPAC it was recommended that the TIAS gets trained in SIOP and ALPS. Dr. Espinoza brought up how citations can be given to parents as far as not being able to pass the buses. He wants a letter of advice on the policy on not being able to pass buses after the stop sign is pulled out. Citations are issued in Socorro.
Open Forum:
Kinder:
Junior computer lab concerns it takes a while to turn on the computers. And it delays to log in the kids. Will ask Coach to assign safety patrols to turn on the computers during their morning duty.They don’t have dividers like the other computer lab. Privacy folders would be ideal. Copy Machine some teachers are making too many copies which can be riso. Anything that is in the lesson plan should be printed in advance. 30 copies will be the maximum in the copy machine. Anything above 30 copies needs to be done at the riso. Turn in riso request ahead of time and turn in a sample of what you are requesting in case you need staples etc. The riso request form is going to be updated. Lesson plans procedures turn in a hard copy of the lesson plans to Myriam then place them in the server so everyone can have access to them. Lesson plans deadline will be every Wednesday by 7:00pm. Lesson plans for tutoring will be due on Thursdays to Mr. Miranda. We need the documentation for the audit binder. Kinder is concerned with P.E they feel that a lot of their kids are getting into trouble during P.E time. They are receiving a lot of concerns from parents. Kinder Teachers would like to have their own P.E, First grade has seen an increase as well. Mrs. Velasquez feels that if something happens in P.E Coach will handle the situation and document and will share with the teacher but they will contact the parent. Mrs. Velasquez shared that there is a monitor playground incident sheet that could be filled out by the monitors and give it to the teacher. Mrs. Velasquez introduced PLC’s will be done in the 45 minute slot time (Kinder P.E time 12:10- 12:55) and the students will go with coach and will do a health class. This would be done in a weekly basis a day would be designated to each grade level. Mrs. Martinez will take this information back to her grade level.
First:
They discussed how effective the Olweus lessons are sometimes they feel that the lessons aren’t necessarily. Campus can create their own Olweuslessons for your campus. By all means grade levels can create their own lessons but they will need to submit their lessons. All grade levels will go back to their colleagues and provide the SIT committee with what they are following for Olweus. We will order books next school year for the Book of the Month with a possible target of Social emotional,Bullying etc.
Coffee with the Principal Mrs. Velasquez would like for students to perform for our parents and share plays, songs, etc. The classes with the most participation for Coffee with the principal will get an additional 10 minutes for lunch. Perfect Attendance raffle is limited to students can there be other incentives. Ideas of Perfect attendance popcorn, Library Reading Time, Boli Ball once a month. Mrs. Velasquez will find out about getting a sky lab. Mrs. Duran shared that she is also promoting who ever spells pizza party will get a pizza party and a magic show. Mrs. L Rodriguez mentioned that if there are any incentives for Teachers that have perfect attendance. One gift card every nine weeks and then a consolation a small prize for the others. Drawings will be drawn monthly for all employees. Any funding for field trips based on any fundraising that has been done by your grade level. One field trip will be paid for by admin only. You can use your carnival funds if needed. Maybe providing a snack vending machine in the Teachers’ Lounge. Mrs. Velasquez shared that she is addressing student restroom condition concerns with district. Parent Teacher Conferences in February 24, 2016. Pizza, drinks and chips will be sold on Parent Teacher Conference night. Coffee with the Principal on February 11, 2016.
Second:
Dining with Dignity if we could implement that back during lunch time. Inclement weather temperature if lower than 45 the students will not be able to go outside. Dining with Dignity will be brought back and will have incentives as free dress day, pajama day, popcorn party etc… Dining with Dignity Wall in the cafeteria. The Science lab needs to be updated and labeled. There is a person assigned to pull out Science materials based on the lesson plans. The volunteers are preparing the Science lab based on the lesson plan needs. Teachers please plan ahead and have Science lesson plans ready. Stick to the Wednesday lesson plan deadline to submit science plans materials. Teachers are in need of pencil sharpeners in their classrooms. They would like either manual or electric pencil sharpeners. Teachers will get a count on how many teachers need a pencil sharpener. They will send an email to Mrs. Velasquez. Can we order new School Shirts for the staff?Olweus school shirts to re order for teachers, staff and students. Mrs. Shindo will contact Charlie from Sports world to get prices for the Olweus shirts as well as the staff shirt. Second grade are very grateful on the changes that have been done to beautify are school.
Third:
The copier the copies get cleared at 4:00 pm. They would like to see if the copies can get cleared at 5:00 pm instead to give teachers a bit more time. Mrs. Sherrod will check in with Juan Carlos to see if they can delay the clear of the copies. They didn’t receive fluency folders this year they are wondering if they can get some to use with their students. Mrs. Cookie shared that the district is pushing the Closed Reading folder for next school year. The conversation on TIA’s following their assigned scheduled time when helping out in the classroom. Several TIA’s are not being consistent in showing up to their designated classrooms. Teachers will go back to their grade levels and ask what they think about having six TIA’s next year. SIT members will get back to the committee.
Fourth:
Teachers would like to know if they could have more resources such as measuring up and IXL. They are concerned if they should have the resources versus having TIA’s. Mrs. Velasquez shared the importance of having the Teacher working with the most at risk group while the TIA works with whole group.They will go back and ask their grade level how they feel about having TIA’s and they will report back to the SIT Committee. New T Tess when will they be trained on it. Mrs. Velasquez shared that Principals will be trained soon then after they will train AP’s. Teachers will be provided with a later date by the district.
Fifth:
They would like to see if they can keep teachers in the same grade levels for more than one year. They also want to see if they can remain in the same classroom. Mr. Miranda and Mrs. Velasquez explained how some changes have to be done at times. She can’t guarantee anything but will try not to make too many changes if none needed. Is it possible to keep the same lesson plan template for next year? They want to know what the new principals thoughts in departmentalization. Mrs. Velasquez shared that she feels it helps out teachers grow in their subject area. They need more outlets in their classrooms be placed.
Special Education:
They need supplies and only get a half box of paper as compared to everyone else. Mrs. Velasquez stated that Sped will be receiving supplies as needed from the supply room. Social Studies delivery to students being integrated into the curriculum. You can integrated into a technology project. Mrs. Velasquez will speak with Mrs. Gamez to create a supply list or form for teachers to request.
