Fractions Portfolio Assessment

Virginia Sliced Apple Pie

6 cups sliced apples

1 tablespoon lemon juice

cup maple syrup

1 teaspoon cinnamon

cup sugar

teaspoon nutmeg

2 tablespoons tapioca

teaspoon salt

Mix all the ingredients. Melt 2 tablespoons of butter and pour it over the apple mixture. Put the apple mixture in a 4-inch pie shell and brush maple syrup on top of the mixture. Cover the apples with a pastry crust. Cook for 1 hour at 450°F.

1.  Rod wants to make 9 pies for his family reunion. If a bag of sugar holds 4 cups, how many bags of sugar will he need to buy? Explain in detail how you arrived at your solution.
