The Water Club of Cork Harbour, now the Royal Cork Yacht Club, was established in the year 1720 and is recognised as being the oldest yacht club in the world.

Signed and dated 1738, this recently rediscovered painting has a strong claim to be the earliest surviving painted depiction of Cork harbour and is an exciting addition to the small oeuvre of William van der Hagen.
