May 9, 2015

There is no need for tickets; thus, you may invite as many guests as you wish. Handicapped guests should be taken to the northwest entrance of Stephens Auditorium where they may enter the building “on grade” and then proceed to the elevator to gain access to the auditorium. Flash Photography will take your picture as you receive your diploma. The proofs will be sent to your ISU email with a link to order.

1.Women’s caps are on at all times. Men’s caps off when seated/on when standing.

2.Graduating seniors will assemble behind the stage. Please arrive by 11:15 a.m. using the door at the loading dock located on the south side of the building. Drs.Griffith and Brown will serve as marshals for the ceremony and will assist you in lining up for the processional. Line-up will be 5 rows of students (see chart). Dr. Griffith will lead A’Agha-Falcone into the auditorium at 12:00 sharp. Dr.Griffith will sit in seat 14 right. Kristi Falkwill start the second row (Falk-Kobs) and proceed to seat 15right. Kerri Kochwill lead the third row seat 15(Koch-Nguyen), the fourth row will be led by Kyle Norman in seat 15(Norman-Slight), and the 5th row will be led by Lorien Sopchak to seat 15 right (Sopchak-Zhu) and Dr. Brown will sit at the end of this row, seat 15 left. 3. Dr. Andreasen will welcome everyone to the ceremony and introduce the marshals. Remarks from the Dean. Introduction of speaker.

4.Remarks and conferring of the DVM degree by the president.

5.When Dr. Andreasenrequests the marshals to present the class of 2015, only the first row should stand and move to its right, led by Dr. Griffith. Dr. Griffith will stop at the top of the steps to the stage. A’aghaand the rest of row 1 will be directly behind. The whole row should exit out of the row of seats and form a line up the stairs inside the auditorium so the view of the audience is not blocked. The audience will be asked to hold applause until all diplomas are awarded. Dr. Andreasen will then comment that each graduate’s name will be announced after they are hooded and while they are approaching the Dean (spot to stop will be marked with tape). While making this announcement, Dr.Griffith will release Samir A’aghafrom the line to the hooding station. Samirwill then be accompanied by a Faculty Escort to receive the diploma cover from the Dean. (It works smoothly if you take the diploma in your left hand leaving your right hand free to shake hands with the Dean). After Dean Nolan has congratulated Samir, the next name will be called. Samir will walk to the curtain where a “green” photo will be taken, then exit down the stairs back to your seat. When 5 or 6 people from the first row remain in line at the stage, the 2nd row should stand, give the men time to put on their caps, and proceed to the stage steps. The other rows should follow this procedure at the appropriate time. You may be seated when you reach your seat. Dr. Griffith will remain at the top of the steps until the end of row 5. Dr. Brown will be at the bottom of the stairs when you leave the stage to congratulate you. The audience will be asked to give a congratulatory round of applause when all doctors have received their diplomas.

6.Dr. Andreasen will introduce the students graduating with distinction.

7.Dr. Ryan Steen, President of the IVMA, will administer the veterinarian’s oath. You will be asked to stand, give the men a few moments to put on their caps, and ask you to repeat after him.

8.Dr. Andreasen will conclude the ceremony. Faculty on stage will lead the recessional out of the auditorium, followed by Dr. Brownand the new doctors. Dr. Griffithwill be the last person in the recessional.

  1. Anyone student wishing to recycle their gown may turn in backstage to any OASA staff. Faculty will return rented gowns in the green room.
