Adaptive Sports Internship

Location: Various Locations throughout the state. One position available in the Rutland Area, one position in the Springfield Area, two positions available in Burlington Area, and one position available in the Waterbury/Montpelier Area.

An internship with Vermont Adaptive is a full time, summer-long position. The intern works under the supervision of the program coordinator. They work directly with students with physical, cognitive and developmental disabilities in recreational activities. Interns must be available to work flexible hours including weekends, evenings and holidays.

Overview of Duties, Responsibilities, and Requirements

·  Assist the program coordinator in overall operations of Vermont Adaptive Programming

·  Communicate effectively with volunteers, staff and coordinator both within Vermont Adaptive and with Partnering organizations

·  Lead and instruct climbing, cycling and paddling programs for individuals with disabilities

·  Promote, facilitate and oversee adaptive programs

·  Attend local outreach event (i.e. farmers markets, hospital visits, etc)

·  Maintain and assess repairs for all equipment and vehicles

·  Help with special events throughout the state

·  Attend and help facilitate volunteer training days

Minimum Qualifications:

·  All interns must be at least 18 years of age

·  Clean driving record and reliable transportation

·  Enrolled in, or recently completed a college/university track related to outdoor programming, therapeutic recreation, adventure education, special education, physical therapy or related field

·  First aid and CPR certification required, Wilderness First Responder preferred

·  Competency in computer programs: word, excel, and publisher

·  Commitment to the entire season (June-early September)

·  Vermont Adaptive is looking for intern staff that is self-motivated, takes initiative and has some experience or desire to learn about with working with people with disabilities and adventure recreation.

·  Knowledge of repair and maintenance of cycling equipment

·  Strong cycling/climbing/paddling experience, instruction experience preferred

·  All interns must have a strong work ethic, flexibility, a love for the outdoors, an open mind and a love for working with people.
