MINUTES: February 21, 2011

Present at meeting: Marie Dahlhoff, Adrienne Lewis, Ruth, Chad Law, Chandra Law, Stephanie Rissler Christopherson, Paige Keck, Ann Emerson, Ellen Hansen, Crystal Brady, Gretchen Burbach, Chris Doty,

OPEN POSITIONS:

1. Open Position for Advanced Hip Hop Class: Filled by Chris Doty

2. Election of Board members:

  1. Treasurer: Ann Emerson
  1. Vice President: Chad Law
  1. Secretary: Stephanie Rissler Christopherson

3. Committees appointed:

A. Recital Committee (Chad Law, Gretchen Burbach, Pam Emerson)

a. discussion of photography at recital. Sieversma Photography offers a bid for the job)

b. Paige did go before the school board and announced the VADO was granted the use of the High School Auditorium for $50.00 if we charge admission, if we do not charge admission we can use the auditorium for free. We do have to clean up after ourselves.

c. Discussion on whether to charge for the recital. Committee decides YES VADO will charge a small fee for audience members.

B. Summer Classes Committee: Stephanie Rissler Christopherson / Adrienne Lewis:

  1. Fundraising Committee: Ellen Hanson will do thank you letter’s to those businesses / organizations who have donated thus far
  1. Physical Plant: no one appointed

PURCHASES:

1. Expenses:

A. Paige asks for permission to pay for the Barre already in use in the basement of City Hall

  1. Mirrors – discussion on the mirrors donated by Jerad Higman. Talk of contacting a professional glass / window company to professionally move mirrors from current location to City Hall.

2. Flooring

  1. Flooring committee is appointed. The following have offered their services on flooring committee

(Marie, Adrienne (Raymond), Ruth, Marion, Chad, Stephanie and brawny husband, Gretchen and Brawny husband, Steve.)

B. Ruth provides handout materials and guesses on the cost to purchase a dance floor for VADO. Samples are provides. O’Mara Harlequin Stage Step is looked at.

GRANTS:

A. Paige and Adrienne update those at the meeting on the status of the grant. Still unsure if VADO is being considered for funds.

B. Kara Youngworth of United Way was unable to attend to provide other grant ideas.

FUNDRAISER UPDATE:

  1. VADO’s fundraising event in Januaryearned a total of $1,087.00. That is nearly enough to cover the Marley Floor which will be the top layer of the new floor.
  1. Discussion focused on additional fundraising efforts and left over silent auction items.

NEW CLASSES:

  1. Stephanie added an additional hip hop class on Fridays at 6:15pm. (Chris Doty is the Dance Mom)
  1. Discussion on whether to continue to allow new enrollees or close registrations. The decision was made to close registrations.
  1. Devin will be teaching a ballroom dance class for high school students and adults this spring. There will be a total of 7 classes beginning Tuesday;March 29th, Classes will be from 5 to 6:30pm on Tuesday and Thursdays at the High School. Last class is Tuesday after prom. Cost is $15.00 per student and $20 per adult. You do not need a partner to participate.
  1. Adrienne’s scholarship class: no discussion

FUTURE:

A.The deadline for inclusion in the spring / Summer Parks and Rec Catalog is April 15th. If we are to have a summer program, which will have to be mostly ironed out by then. I would like to see us add classes like Mommy and Me for the very young – anybody interested in scouting out an instructor, please share.

B.VAST, hopefully we will have hard from or talked with someone from VAST about their model of incorporation and see if it might make a good fit for us. One of the parents present at the meeting shared their knowledge on VAST. Still a bit unsure on how VAST has structured its organization and if it will work for VADO.

C.Teacher Training: no discussion

D.Fall Classes: no discussion
