This Risk Assessment is designed to compliment the Sportspark Risk Assessments available from

UNSUPERVISED CHILDREN / HIGH /
  • All pupils are the responsibility of the teachers, staff and designated parent helpers from their own primary school throughout the duration of the event
  • Pupils should stay in small groups to visit facilities i.e. toilets and be accompanied by a member of staff or designated person from their school.
  • Designated meeting points will be identified and communicated.
  • The school will hold emergency contact details for each attending child.
  • The event will be held under the control of the School Games Event Management Team.
  • The officials and helpers recruited by Norwich Dragons Hockey Club and the Event Management Team will supervise the competition areas.

INCIDENT DURING JOURNEY TO & FROM VENUE / MEDIUM /
  • The outward journey will be by LEA school bus or school mini-bus or approved cars
  • Each school to make their own arrangement for supervision on the outward journey to comply with school and LEA policy
  • The return journey will be by LEA school bus or school mini-bus or approved cars
  • Each school that chooses to make their own travel arrangements for the return journey must comply with school and LEA policy.

ACCIDENT OR INJURY / HIGH /
  • St Johns Ambulance will be in attendance as well as designated member of Sportspark staff and first aid qualified members of the Event Management Team.
  • Any incidents to be recorded by school staff and reported to the Event Management Team
  • Emergency telephone access available in the Sportspark reception plus staff mobile phones
  • Supervising teachers will be expected to arrange parental contact and further care in the event of an injury in line with school policy

  • Participating schools to be responsible for providing adequate personnel according to LEA requirements
  • If the ratios are not met, where possible additional adults will be assigned to support that school. If this is not possible the school must arrange for further support.

INADEQUATE PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT / MEDIUM /
  • Participating school staff to ensure pupils have suitable kit, footwear & equipment for participating in an outdoor event
  • All jewellery should be removed before pupils compete.
  • Pupils should have sufficient water and snack foods to consume when not competing.
  • Sun cream, hats are strongly advised as is suitable warm clothing to wear if weather conditions are variable.
  • Pre-event communication to outline what PPE is required.

  • All venue equipment used is the responsibility of the UEA Sportspark and are deemed safe within their risk assessment.Any problems should be reported to appropriate members of staff via the Event Management Team, or direct to the Sportspark staff.
  • Appropriate equipment will be used for the age group. Quicksticks goals, balls and sticks. The Event Management Team and Norwich Dragons will check all equipment being used is suitable.

  • The Event Management Team and Norwich Dragons will recruit suitable officials and helpers with the appropriate qualifications and experience.

  • Staff to check pupils wear appropriate clothing for prevailing weather conditions.
  • In severe weather conditions the event will be cancelled by the Event Management Team.

  • In the event of an emergency Event Management Team will implement procedures outlined in event safety plan.
  • Attendees will meet at agreed and communicated assembly point
