Referee education modules are primarily suitable for those candidates who wish to gain theoretical qualification for their next level referee award. The Club module will examine the structure of competition, the referee pathway and the application of the rules applicable to that level. The course is also suitable for those coaches who wish to increase their understanding of referee decisionsat domestic event level. Those wishing to take referee examinations must ensure they meet the entry criteria for the grade sought.

Being a technical official can be of great benefit to your club – and you get one of the best seats at a competition from which to watch the judo!

Requirements to sit exam

Other Requirements

Candidates for Contest Recorder or Senior Recorder should have done at least 4 events since their last qualification.

Notes

There will be 2 courses running simultaneously, for CR and SR. Candidates can only sit one course and exam.

It is possible (and preferable) to qualify as Timekeeper (TK) “on the job” prior to the day and then go for CR.

Those wishing to take the coursesMUST register in advance.

Bring a notebook and Pen (no judogi required). Anybody may sit theCR course, parents and non-players are welcome. Examinees for senior recorder must hold a current BJA membership to take the assessment at the end of the course (not required for CR). There is no grade requirement for the qualifications; indeed, you don’t need to have done judo at all to become a Technical Official, although familiarity with referees’ words and signals will help.
