Njambi McGrath’s Breaking Black is an exploration of a black British/African woman’s experience in a hostile post-Brexit Britain and a highlight of the strugglesand fragility of immigrants who are too often used as political bait but are a necessary backbone to the functionality of modern Britain. TheBlack African woman is either completely ignored or too often portrayed in a one dimension paradigm as the victim of disease, war, or in need of saving from primitive cultural practices. She is what rich white women think about when they need to discard their worn-out bras.

What motivates people to come to the UK? What aspirations do immigrants have, and how do they thrive hereamidst these hostilities? Spat on and told to go back to the jungle (by a four-year-old, no less), Njambi examinesthe patriotism of immigrants in their new home (during Brexit, many immigrants voted leave). She is Breaking Black, and loving it.

Fluent in three languages, Njambiattended university in London and the State University of New York and holds a degree in IT. She appeared on the UK comedy circuit in 2010 and was soon voted Top 5 Up and Coming Female Comedians 2012 by The Sun’s Fabulous magazine. She has been profiled on several media platforms, including The Guardian, The Herald, Scotland on Sunday,TV’s 6 O’clock News, Sky News, The Conversation (BBC World Service) and Radio 4’s Saturday Live.

Njambi is a contributor to the Glam Africa fashion magazine and an avid blogger. She has just finished writing her first book.
