May 16,17, 2008

Hosted by JSRCC at the Downtown Campus
Teaching Translation: English to ASL
August 22, 23, 2008
9am- 5:30 pm
Hosted by JSRCC at the Downtown Campus
Pre-requisites:
Participants should have taken the course in English Skills Development and Cognitive Processing Skills before registering for these courses. If you have not taken this first course but have experience with the curriculum, please contact Paula Debes at .
Required Materials:
All participants must bring a copy of the Teacher’s Edition of the books relevant to each course. So students taking Teaching Language Skills Development must purchase “Effective Interpreting Series: ASL Skills Development, Teacher’s Guide” by Carol Patrie and those taking Teaching Translation must purchase “Effective Interpreting: Translation from English, Teacher’s Guide”, also written by Carol Patrie. Books may be purchased through Dawn Sign Press at www.effectiveinterpreting.com
In addition, all participants must have the ability to record video. JSRCC has several hard drive minicams that can be used and the video downloaded and stored on a Thumb (USB) drive. A 2G drive is recommended due to the size of the file. A second option is to bring your own camera and tape/DVD.
Credit/ CEUs:
These courses are offered through Language Matters, Inc. and have been approved for undergraduate or graduate credit by ACE College Recommendation Services. Those taking the courses for credit must participate in the entire course and then take and pass a written assessment at the end of the workshop. Participants may sign up to receive RID CMP or ACET credits, provided at no charge to participants by Language Matters, Inc. through SLA.
Accommodations:
Participants will be reimbursed for hotel charges for Friday night through the VCCS. Participants are encouraged to share hotel rooms when possible. JSRCC recommends several quality hotels near campus. These include:
