Marina Ivanova (742 gr.)An Ode to Stylistic

(Variations on «An Ode» by Richard Barnfield)

She that thee befriend indeed,

She will help thee in the need:

If the words of other feign,

She will them at once ordain;

She will soothe thee and thy wrath,

Being the slightest self of moth;

Never seest thee Her complain

Or some words of text disdain;

She’s not coward, She’s not sly,

She is in the very nigh;

Chaplets of lexemes She deals,

Doth not oust the euphemisms;

Overstatement, zeugma, bathos…

Phrases read with kind of pathos…

Ellipsis, chiasmus … then

Everything born with the pen.

Thus of every case, in heart,

She with thee doth bear a part.

Each device She valueth so,

Forsooth these are signs to know

Faithfull friend from all the Arts

Which the hidden sense imparts.

Do remember, She’s the need,

She that thee befriends indeed!

Anastasya Morozova (741 gr.)

***A little boy Teddy went to the forest, but he was afraid: the sky was covered with black clouds and around was dark. But as he was walking everything was becoming brighter, more luminous, more vibrant. And soon Teddy found himself in the most attractive place in the earth.

Suddenly he saw a strange sign: «A Kingdom of STYLISTICS». STY-LIS-TICS… Hmm… What’s it? This very moment an old man with a beard which was as white as snow appeared in front of the boy.

– You are in the magic place, dear boy!

– But what is it? What is stylistics?

– I’ll explain you. Look!

The magician clapped his hands and all life around them came to a stand: birds stopped singing, the wind stopped blowing, the sun stopped shining… like someone pushed the button «stop». Trees and leaves became dull and faded, flowers lost their colour and smell.

– You see, boy, life without motion, colour, voices and smell. And our language without stylistics is like this boring motionless forest.

– Wow! How interesting it is!

– That’s why I want to give you a piece of advice: love stylistics and you will always see a world in brilliant, vivid colours!

– Thank you, magician.

Alyona Farutina (743 gr.)The Paean in Honor of the MOST BESTEST

Whenever, wherever

Forget shall we never,

This branch of linguistics

Which is called STYLISTICS.

What should we deduce

If he writes p

y r

a m i d ?

How should we excuse

If we see shout «I NEEEEED!»

She helps us ascribe

And not misunderstand

Where’s hidden the gibe

In «Is Brutus your friend?»

She shines as a lantern

In the dead of the night

And do show us that term

Which in the speech should be right.

She teaches us to read lots:

Words, words … and thoughts.

She needs make us clever

Whenever, wherever…

Vladimir Kits (742 gr.)

She can see through all breastplates,

That some Doyles like to place,

You to teach to understand –

Little can we do so grand.

Inner nature, thoughts and dreams…

Smiling tears upon the finding,

Then – it tears away your smiling,

If you can’t explain it – grinding …

Cruel she may be and divining –

So is everyone’s surrounding.

Anna Mamontova (743 gr.)

*** Once God gave life to Adam and to Word. And began Word singing and dancing and playing upon people’s wishes. Times passed, Times changes. People forgot the exclusive mission of Word. And now they clean their dirty hands on It, crumple, trample It and throw out like an useless paper.

Ssssssstop it…..!

… but the prophet said: «And the mighty power – Stylistics will rise for Word’sdefence and rise hurt and putWord on the throne to be a guide for people throughout the paths of life».
