In recognition of service to Canada, Shell Vacations Club (SVC) Canada, ULC and its affiliates are offering complimentary lodging to eligible members of the Canadian Forces, under the auspices of their Vacations for Vets program.
This program is reserved for serving or former members of the Canadian Forces who sustained an illness or injury attributable to military service in a Special Duty Area / Special Duty Operation and are in receipt of a VAC benefit for that illness or injury.
Travel requests must be accompanied by a Veterans Affairs Canada confirmation letter that validates the member is in receipt of a benefit attributable to military service in a Special Duty Area/Special Duty Operation. Members can either submit their entitlement decision letter or contact Veterans Affairs Canada directly at their toll free number 1-866-522-2122 (EN)/ 1-866-522-2022 (FR) for a confirmation letter which does not include any benefit details. A SVC employee will contact you to coordinate the details of your accommodation once your application has been approved. Please submit your vacation request 3 weeks prior to your intended travel date.

VACATIONS FOR VETS
TERMS AND CONDITIONS
Shell Vacations Club (SVC) Canada and the Canadian Forces Personnel and Family Support Services (CFPFSS) are pleased to announce Vacations for Vets is now available to serving or former members of the Canadian Forces who have sustained an illness or injury attributable to military service in a Special Duty Area (SDA) or Special Duty Operation (SDO) and are in receipt of a Veterans Affairs Canada benefits for that illness or injury. TheVacations for Vets program provides eligible members of the Canadian Forces, and their travelling companions, with free lodging for one week at any of the Shell Vacations Properties listed on the application form.
Additional weeks, above the complimentary one week provided by CFMWS, will be based upon SVC availability and at the expense of the participant. The desire to stay longer than one week will have to be communicated to SVC at the time of application. Please make a special note on your application form if you desire to extend your stay above the complimentary week.
Travelling companions include children, spouses, extended family members, and other dependents. Please note pets are not permitted on SVC properties.
ELIGIBILITY:

APPLICATION PROCESS:
Please download the travel request application form and submit a completed application along with VAC proof of eligibility to . Once your application has been approved, an employee of SVC will be in contact with you to schedule your complimentary lodging. Eligible participants may request the lodging of their choice. Occupancy is based on availability and blackout dates.
ADDITIONAL COSTS:
Eligible participants are responsible for the cost of travel to/from SVC destinations, meals, activities, taxes and security deposits. This program only covers the cost of lodging at SVC properties.
LEAD TIME:
Please submit your vacation request a minimum of 3 weeks prior to your intended travel date. Applications will be accepted starting 1 January 2012.
ABOUT THE VACATIONS FOR VETS PROGRAM
The Vacations for Vets program is an initiative driven by Shell Vacations Club members who graciously donate excess timeshare points back to SVC annually. These points have been collected and earmarked for eligible participants. Participants are under no obligation to attend a SVC timeshare presentation.
ANNEX A – SPECIAL DUTY AREAS / SPECIAL DUTY OPERATIONS
DEFINITIONS
Special Duty Area (SDA)
An area outside Canada designated as a Special Duty Area by the Minister of National Defence.
Special Duty Operation (SDO)
An operation designated as a Special Duty Operation by the Minister of National Defence.
Special Duty Service
Under the Pension Act means service after 11 September 2001, as a member of the Canadian Forces in a designated special duty area orspecial duty operation and includes:
- periods of training for the express purpose of service in a SDA or SDO, wherever that training takes place;
- travel to and from the SDA / SDO or the location of training referred to in subparagraph a. (above); and
- authorized leave during special duty service, wherever that leave is taken.
Criteria
Those conditions which must first exist in order for a SDA or SDO to be declared. These conditions are:
- an armed conflict;
- an operation authorized under the UN Charter, the North Atlantic Treaty, the North American Aerospace Defence Command Agreement, or any other similar treaty instrument, or any other international or multinational operation;
- an operation authorized by the government as a measure for dealing with a national emergency proclaimed under the Emergencies Act;
- an operation authorized under:
- Part VI of the National Defence Act for the purpose of aid to the civil power;
- Section 273.6 of the National Defence Act for the purpose of law enforcement assistance or performance of public service duties;
- the crown prerogative, for the purpose of providing assistance to federal, provincial or municipal enforcement authorities
- a search and rescue operation;
- a disaster relief operation;
- a counter-terrorism operation; and
- an operation involving exposure to a level of risk equivalent to that associated with operations described in subparagraphs a. through d. above.
