This agency is responsible for the placement of deaf/blind children and youths, preschool through high school, in appropriate educational programs. For older youths and adults, vocational training and rehabilitation services are available. Counseling and other support services for clients and their families are also supplied. No fee is charged.

The school is conducted by the Connecticut Institute for the Blind and serves multi-handicapped children with visual impairments, ages three to twenty-one, in group homes throughout Connecticut. Deaf-blind students are accepted into the program.

Paces Program
American School for the Deaf

PACES is a department of the American School for the Deaf. It offers educational services to deaf and hard of hearing children and adolescents with significant emotional/behavioral problems. These children generallycannot be appropriately educated with traditional deaf education programs because of their special needs. Services are offered to for elementary through senior high school age. Features of the program include academic, vocational, and physical education; effective education; formal and informal counseling; and social and recreational opportunities. Residential placement is possible on a part-time basis. The program works to provide a structured, supportive, supervised environment for all students, using behavioral management techniques and the development of a consistent milieu.

TAC/HKNC is a national project providing technical assistance supporting programs to facilitate transition services for deaf-blind youths attaining age 22. Serves public and private agencies, organizations, programs, parent organizationsproposing to provide, services to deaf-blind youths. Supported employment issues are addressed. Technical assistance, training, and consultation are available. Individuals cannot be served directly, but questions are answered. A newsletter is available.
