MBA Strategic Consulting Program

Global Field Study Project -Timeline

Fall-Winter / Winter-Spring Quarters 2014-2015

Each student on the team commits approximately four to five hours a week to the project for 12-15 academic weeks (allowing for break and exam weeks) generally conducted as follows:

Weeks 1-2 Individual students are introduced to projects, meet prospective partner companies, learn about project expectations, form teams of 3-4 students, bid on projects. Company selects team if more than one applies. Depending on project subject areas and the total number of projects and students, we may not be able to provide a team for each interested company.

Weeks 3-6 Team thoroughly examines and investigates the partnering organization; conducts a preliminary meeting with partner; identifies project focus and scope; conducts internal and external environmental analyses; establishes reporting procedures and expectations; creates project plan including research design, budget and time schedule. Team signs partner company Non Disclosure Agreement (NDA) if required. Team defines and frames the specific study topic(s); prepares letter of understanding for partner, with all parties signing the letter to agree on specifics for the balance of the study.

Weeks 7-13 Team collects, analyzes and interprets data; develops and evaluates strategic options. For Global projects, the two-week in-country research segment will take place around weeks 7-10, either in early December or mid-March..

Weeks14-15 Team writes report including analysis, conclusions, recommendations and action steps. Team presents oral and written reports at partnercompany to key decision makers, faculty advisor and Field Study program staff.

The projects typically commence (Week One) in early fall or winter academic quarters. However, with the approval of the partner company, the faculty advisor and the MBA Strategic Consulting program, projects may be introduced at other times, provided the work can be completed in a satisfactory manner and sufficient research can be conducted prior to the in-country part of the project.
