USWOA REQUIREMENTS FOR REFEREE UPGRADE

There is no minimum age to be a registered mat official.

A referee shall not be promoted more than one category in a USWOA calendar year.

Promotions are not based on years of membership but are based on evaluation of performance at required events.

SHORT VERSION OF UPGRADE REQUIREMENTS

M3 to M2

Must have been a member of the USWOA for 1 year.

Must have worked at least 1 Regional or National event and been recommended for upgrade.

Must be recommended by State Chairman or State Officials Director.

M2 to M1C

Must have been a Category M2 for at least1 year.

Must have worked at least 1 Regional and 2 National events. One of the Nationals must be in the year they seek upgrade. They must be recommended for upgrade at both of the National events.

Must be recommended by State Chairman or State Officials Director.

M1C to M1

Must have been a Category M1C for at least 1 year.

Must have worked at least 1 Regional, and one of the following, the Cadet/Junior Nationals, theUniversity Nationals/UWW Cadet and/or the Junior Duals, in the same year they are seeking upgrade. They must be recommended for upgrade at the events.

Must be recommended by State Chairman or State Officials Director.

* 17 and under will receive no tournament housing.

** 15-16 year olds can work kids only.

*** Category M3 officials who officiate at the Cadet/Junior Nationals must be at least 18 years old, they must have graduated from High School, they must be recommended by their State Chairmen and/or their State Officials Director and they must be eligible for promotion to Category M2.

CATEGORY MAINTENANCE

M2- There is no maintenance requirement for Category M2 referees. They may remain at their category by paying their required dues and passing the required background check.

M1C- Must work at least 1 (one) USAW regional or national event each year. If they are not promoted to Category M1 after 2 (two) years they will be returned to Category M2 status for additional training and evaluation.

M1- Must work a USAW regional or national event every year and a national event at least every other year to retain their M1 category.
