USF Tampa General Education Enhancement – Implementation Timeline

Please note that in this initial implementation timeline Phases 1 and 2 operate concurrently.

Phase 1

This initial phase focuses on Tier II of the General Education pyramid (Creative Thinking; Information Data Literacy; Human & Cultural Diversity) for initial implementation in Summer/Fall 2018.

November 8, 2017Call for Proposals

November 29, 2017USF Course Proposal Site opens for submissions

December 15, 2017Submission deadline to General Education Council for courses that have been advanced at the department and college level

April 2, 2018General Education Council recommends certification of approved courses to the Dean of Undergraduate Studies

June 25, 2018Approved and certified courses first offered in B session

Spring 2019General Education Council assesses initially-approved courses and makes recommendations for revision or for 3-year certification through AY 2021-2022

Phase 2

This phase focuses on interdisciplinary and cross-unit courses in Tier II of the General Education pyramid (Creative Thinking; Information Data Literacy; Human & Cultural Diversity) for initial implementation in Spring 2019.

November 8, 2017Call for Proposals

December 15, 2017Submission deadline to Undergraduate Studies for courses that have been advanced at the department and college level

December 22, 2017 Undergraduate Studies announces which faculty teams have been selected to participate in the interdisciplinary course proposal program

Mar 2, 2018Submission deadline to General Education Council for courses that have been advanced at the department and college level

May 4, 2018 Approved interdisciplinary course proposals are announced and professional development funds released to team members.

Spring, 2019 Approved and certified interdisciplinary courses first offered

Summer, 2019General Education Council assesses initially-approved courses and makes recommendations for revision or for 3-year certification through AY 2021-2022

Phase 3

This phase focuses on Tier III and Tier IV of the General Education pyramid (Ethical Reasoning & Civic Engagement, High-Impact Practices) for initial implementation in Summer/Fall 2019. This phase will also encourage interdisciplinary curriculum design and delivery.

August 7, 2018Call for Proposals

October 5, 2018Submission deadline to General Education Council for courses that have been advanced at the department and college level

December 7, 2018General Education Council recommends certification of approved courses to the Dean of Undergraduate Studies

Summer B, 2019Approved and certified courses first offered

Spring 2020General Education Council assesses initially-approved courses and makes recommendations for revision or for 3-year certification through AY 2022-2023
