Users’ Instructions for 8-digit Desk Calculator with earphone: type WRI-011-322-0003

Getting to know the calculator:

The calculator has a large liquid crystal display (LCD) in the top left hand corner of the calculator. To the right of the display is the small speaker grille.

The ON and OFF buttons are located in the bottom right hand corner of the calculator. The ON button is approximately one half inch or 12mm square and is close to right edge. The OFF button is to the left of the ON button and it is roughly 3/8 inch or 10mm square.

Underneath the centre of the display is a small, sliding volume control button which has three settings. Starting from the far left they are: off, normal, loud. The calculator is shipped with an ear-bud that can be inserted into the headphone jack that is located to the right of the speaker grille on the side of the calculator.

On the same level as the volume control button and 5cm to its right are three additional soft-touch buttons, marked RESET, U/D and A.R.O. Reset is round, 4mm in diameter and on the left; U/D and A.R.O. are each lozenge-shaped, 9mm long and to the right of the Reset button.

The Reset key allows you to reset the calculator after changing batteries or if the calculator ever freezes in operation.

The U/D key, which stands for units and digits, verbally expresses the number shown in the display as units or digits, e.g. the number 23 can be expressed as either a unit “Twenty three”, or as digits, “Two, three” Pressing the U/D will produce either one beep sound or two: one beep means the output will be by unit; two beep sounds mean the audio report will be given out by digits.

The A.R.O button, which stands for Audio Result Only, enables you to turn off the talking function for most keys. A double beep sound when you press this button means that the calculator’s full talking function is on and all keys are identified verbally when pressed. When the ARO setting is selected by pressing the ARO key again you will hear one beep sound, meaning that the talking function works only for the “Equals”, “Rep.”, “MR”, and “%” buttons when they are pressed; the calculator will still verbally report on the final result of a calculation while it is in A.R.O mode.

The REP. or repeat button is to the left of the OFF button and when it is pressed announces the value shown on the LCD screen.

The buttons for the calculator’s input and mathematical functions occupy 4 rows and are arranged with the numerical input keys as the first three columns to the far left. At the bottom of the second column from the left, under the number 2 key, is the decimal point key; next to it on the right is the Equals key.

The mathematical operator keys are arranged to the right of the number keys in two columns. The left column of operators contains from top to bottom the multiply subtract and add buttons. The right hand column has the divide button at the top, with percent and REP below.

The last two columns on the right hand side house the remaining calculator keys for memory management. The buttons of the left column from the top down are MR (Memory Recall), M- (Remove from memory), CE (Clear entered value), and the OFF button. The right hand column contains, from the top, MC (Memory Clear), M+ (the value will be placed into memory), AC (Clear all data in the display but not in the memory), and the ON button.

Pressing the ON button produces two beeps; pressing the OFF button produces one.

The calculator works in all respects in exactly the same manner as a regular basic calculator that does not have a speaking function.

Insert/Change the batteries:

The calculator’s sound volume will decrease and the display may become inoperative if the batteries need replacement.

·  Turn the calculator over so that its smooth underside faces you. The battery compartment is in the raised section. Locate the compartment door in the center by finding the small, triangular section with moulded grip marked “OPEN”. Using your thumb, slide the lid forward one quarter inch, or 6mm, lift it out and retain nearby.

·  If replacing already installed batteries, pry them out by inserting a nail-file or similar tool at one end. Place two quality, alkaline batteries size AA into the compartment, with each battery’s flat end against the metal springs. The calculator’s large display should now show the digit zero.

·  Replace the lid by lowering it back into its slot - leaving a one quarter inch or 12mm gap at the edge of the slot. Slide the lid fully home into the slot, making sure the 2 guide tabs on the lid’s trailing edge are flush with the calculator’s body.

·  Turn over the calculator and find the speaker grille, which is in the upper right corner. Directly below the left, vertical edge of the grille is a small, round button marked RESET; it is around half the diameter of a pencil eraser. Press the RESET button now to clear the calculator’s memories for operation.

·  The calculator produces one short beep and turns itself off if no button is pressed for a few minutes.

Any Problems?

If the batteries’ are replaced and the clock still has a problem, try resetting the calculator: press the small RESET button that is located one inch or 25mm below the left edge of the speaker grille.
