Operation

Before Use Charge The Camera And Set Up Your SD Card

Charging

  • 1. The camera will need charging before use. This will take approximately 2-3 hours.
  • 2. With the camera turned off, insert the USB cable into the camera and a USB port on the computer, or an external mains USB charger. The LED indicators will show – RED steady – BLUE flashing, indicating the unit is charging. When the BLUE light turns off and the RED light is steady, the camera is fully charged.
  • 3. When the battery is low, the camera will go into ‘Protective Mode’, and cannot be switched on. You will need to recharge the battery before you can use it.

Set The Time For The Camera

  • Using your PC, and a card reader, create a text file in the root DCIM folder of your SD card named ‘TAG.txt’.
  • Open the TAG.txt file with your text editor, and create these three lines.

  • The date is obviously in Year/Month/Day format, and the Time is 24 hour HH/MM/SS format
  • Set the date and time to suit your needs, and when the camera is charged, and off, insert the SD card and with a bit of clever timing, turn on the camera at the time and date you have selected.

Switching On

  • 1. Before using the device you must insert a compatible SD card. Insert it firmly in the slot until it clicks and locks into place. If a card is not inserted and camera is turned on, the camera LED indicators will show – RED steady & BLUE flashing. The camera cannot be operated, and after 30 seconds, it will turn off.
  • 2. When the camera is off and charged, pressing the Power On/Off button will turn the camera on and the LED indicators will show – BLUE steady – RED will flash twice then turn off. The camera is now in stand-by mode.

Recording Video & Audio

  • 1. While in stand-by mode, press the Record/Save button once. The LED indicators will show – BLUE steady – RED flashing, indicating it is now recording.
  • 2. Pressing the Record/Save button again will stop recording and save the data. The LED indicators will show – RED off – Blue steady.

Voice Recording Mode

  • 1. While in stand-by mode, press the Mode button once. The camera will enter ‘Voice Control’ activation mode. The LED indicators will show – BLUE steady – RED flashing quickly. This indicates the camera is in ‘Voice Control Stand-By’.
  • 2. When your voice is raised above 60Db, The BLUE light will stay steady and the RED light will flash slowly. The camera will start recording.
  • 3. When the surrounding noise drops below 60Db, the camera will revert back to stand-by mode and save the recorded data.
  • 4. If the camera records continuously, for 2 minutes, and the surrounding noise is still above 60Db, the camera will stop recording and return to Save and Stand-by mode.

Using As A Web Camera

  • 1. Install the driver from the User CD. The driver name is ‘SPCA1528 PC Driver.exe’, and can be downloaded from the web if you don’t have the User CD. Follow the installation steps when running the program.
  • 2. Switch on the camera and connect to the computer using the USB cable and you should see a standard video device appear in My Computer. You can now use the device as a WebCam.
  • When connected with the USB cable, pressing the Power On/Off button will switch between WebCam and USB connection mode, allowing you to view/playback recorded data from the SD card.

Switching Off

  • 1. From any mode, if you push and hold the Power On/Off button for a few seconds, the camera will turn off, and the LED indicators will be off.
  • The camera will shut down, if either, of these events occur.
  • a) If the battery becomes low, the camera will save the current data automatically, and then turn off.
  • b) If the SD card becomes full, both lights will flash for a short time, the data will be saved, and the camera will turn off.

Playback Of Recordings

  • When you have finished recording, connect the camera to the computer using the USB cable. Using My Computer, click on the Removable Disk and select the DCIM folder. Open the 100MEDIA folder and Double Click the recorded file you wish to view.

Resetting The Camera

  • If for any reason you need to reset the device, because of faulty operation, just insert a paper clip or similar tool into the reset hole and press once. The camera will return to its original settings.

Notes:

  • If the battery goes flat during recording, the camera will save your data before turning off.
  • Every time you press the Record/Save button a new file will be created.
  • Please ensure you have enough light for recording, and keep the camera vertical and stable. Do not try to record images more than 50 metres away.
  • The camera requires a small amount of time to save your data, depending on the recording length. Do not try to cycle the Record/Save button too quickly, or your data will be incomplete.
  • The camera is fitted with a Lithium-ion battery and therefore does not retain memory and can be charged at any time. Please recharge it the first five times it is powered down to gain maximum battery life.
  • Please copy the video files to your PC for maximum quality replay. If the files are played from the camera, they may be unstable if they are large or the card is filling up.
