Jim reported that the relevant standards document is ready to be reviewed and submitted to the TC website.
Action
Jim will incorporate any feedback he receives into the document and post it before the next TC meeting.

Complex problem discussion

Ralph Miller of the Computer Sciences Corporation joined the TC call for the first time in July. He led a lengthy discussion about the Use of UIML in solving problems in complex system design. Mr. Miller focused on the following issues
§  Need for modularity to independently design aspects of the problem (6-way separation afforded by UIML)
§  Need for strict separation of application logic and presentation logic (use of the logic section of UIML)
§  Need for a standard vehicle of communication between teams working different aspects of the problem (UIML as a canonical language for defining UI specifications)
§  Need for support of the overall software design lifecycle (UIML’s ability to use user defined vocabularies)
§  Need to incorporate usability in the overall software design lifecycle

n  Review and discuss ways to promote UIML
n  Review the charter and determine next steps
