Usain Bolt, the Worlds Fastest Man, to Host Gala Dinner to Save the World’s Fastest Animal

Zeitz Foundation and the Zoological Society of London join forces to

Protect African Landscapes for People and Wildlife

London, United Kingdom, October 29, 2012 – Today, the Zeitz Foundation (ZF) and The Zoological Society of London (ZSL) announced that on 22 November 2012, they will host a gala dinner with the fastest man in the world and Zeitz Foundation Ambassador, Usain Bolt.

The evening, which will include an auction, the world premiere of a new composition by Richard Sisson and dinner by Yotam Ottolenghi, is in aid of Zeitz Foundation efforts to establish ecologically and socially responsible destinations and programmes around the world and ZSL’s efforts to conserve cheetah and African wild dogs and the landscapes that support them.

Attendees will dine with Olympic legend Usain Bolt, who has generously donated a pair of his running shoes to the auction, as well as other celebrities. Acclaimed contemporary artists from around the world (including Isaac Julien, Pipilotti Rist, Harland Miller and Cameron Platter, among others) have been invited by curator Nadja Romain to support the vision and initiatives behind the non-profit organizations and donate artwork for the Gala Auction taking place at ZSL London Zoo.

The Zeitz Foundation, founded by Jochen Zeitz, promotes an innovative approach to sustainable ecosystem management and aims to maintain or improve the integrity of ecosystems through effective management practices that ensure ecosystems continue to deliver services - such as clean water and air, and healthy soils - for the benefit of mankind.

Cheetah and African wild dogs are being driven ever closer to extinction. As Africa’s great landscapes have fragmented, the vast habitats these animals need to survive have shrunk to around 10 per cent of their former range.

These icons of the African wilderness are now struggling for survival alongside some of the world’s poorest people. ZSL is taking action to overcome the threats they face and ensure a future for cheetah, African wild dogs and the people living alongside them.

Décor for the event has been designed by London Design Festival winners Medal Rosario and Roberto Feo of El Ultimo Grito.
