Line ManagerSurmaster (with day to day reporting to the Head of US Universities)

Role

To support the work of the St Paul’s Universities and Careers Department in preparing and promoting pupils’ applications for admission to US universities, with particular focus on assisting and advising those with the potential to achieve athletics or sports scholarships. The holder of the post will also contribute to the academic and extracurricular life of the school as detailed below.

General Responsibilities

Teaching

Work with the History department to set and teach lessons especially in US History and Politics

Teach General Studies Courses

Cover private study; assist with school trips (2-3, often during school vacations)

Development Office (US) working with Colet Foundation and US Network

Provide administrative support for theBoard of the Colet Foundation including following up on payments with accounts department

Organise and disseminate information about the Colet Foundation to SPS parents who are US taxpayers to encourage contributions and support.

Provide Administrative support for the Old Pauline network in the United States including organising and updating membership lists and organising events as necessary

Organising social media and networking for the younger and college based OP network in the US.

Contacting Paulines moving to the States with information about the OP network in the US

Collecting Colet Foundation, OP in the US and Colet Fellow News for appropriatepublications (as necessary and in cooperation with the Old Pauline Club coordinator)

Assisting the Head of US Universities and Old Pauline Club with special projects regarding the Colet Foundation and OP in the US network

US Universities Advising

Providing one to one guidance for students on their US university essays

Organising the Student Athlete Information Evening

Provide advice to students interested in Sports scholarships or athletic (non-scholarship) recruitment to US colleges and universities.

Provide advice to counsellors with students applying with an athletic portfolio

Gathering intelligence on individual university sports recruitment and producing materials for the counselling team

Liaise as necessary with coaches regarding SPS candidates.

Organising and accompanying students on the October College tour

Produce materials to highlight SPS sporting prowess for the US university market.

Meet with coaches who visit the UK.

Assist the Head of US Universities as necessary

SPS Boat Club

Acting assecond coach of the J16s

Assist in all aspects of the program

Attend regattas and training camps to provide support and coaching for SPS athletes

To help host and maintain relations with US Rowing Coaches.

Skills and Qualifications
Fluent English speaker, with advanced literacy skills

University Graduate with experience of the US University application process and specific knowledge or experience of athletics/sports scholarship programmes

Direct experience of being a recruited rower at a high level at university

Good contacts with university coaches in the United States

Experience of assisting non-US educated students with US applications

First class presentation skills

Excellent writing and experience of writing and editing publications

Experience of teachingUShistory in a British secondary school

Excellent organisation and IT skills

Able to multi-task work to deadline

Hours of Work

The post is to work full-time during the School’s terms. However, attendance will be expected at regattas and training camps and School trips that may fall outside of the usual school terms.

Holidays

4 weeks per year pro rata (to be taken out of term time) plus bank holidays.

Salary

£22,000pa pro rata(plus accommodation on the School site will be provided free of charge).

Accommodation

Single bedroom accommodation with shared kitchen and washroom facilities will be provided on the school site.
