US Sponsored Ministry Training Scheme

City Church Manchester

2018-2019

City Church

City Church Manchester was launched on 7 September 2014. It is a church right in the heart of Manchester city centre. Our vision is to be a growing church that trains and generously gives labourers to resource and plant churches in Manchester, the north-west and beyond. Since its launch, the church has grown from a core team of 27 adults to more than 270 people in the orbit of the church. The congregation is diverse in age, race and background with 35 nationalities represented among our regulars. We have seen 15 baptisms in the past 3 years and are committed to directly planting 2 churches and facilitating the planting of another 8 churches in Manchester in the next 10 years.

US Sponsorship

Our Ministry Training Scheme is sponsored by a number of our partner churches in the United States. This means that, if appointed, you will be sponsored by a US church who will commit to praying for you throughout your year as a Ministry Trainee. They will also provide financial support to your participation in the scheme and will host you for a 2-4 week placement with them (travel costs and accommodation provided) during your year at City Church.

Ministry Training Scheme

The internship is open to men and women and runs 1st September 2018 - 31st August 2019. The Ministry Training scheme consists of three parts:

Theological Training:

Theological training will be provided through: attendance on the North West Partnership Training course, attendance at a conference, your placement at your US sponsoring church, weekly staff book reading and Bible study, weekly supervision by your mentor. These sessions will focus on ministry skills, on understanding and handling the Bible, and on understanding biblical theology and the way it should shape our lives.

Ministry Training and Experience:

Your training will vary depending on your gifts and the opportunities in the church. However, you can expect it to involve reading the Bible 1to1, personal evangelism, Bible study leading, pastoral visiting, and children’s work (subject to DBS). You will observe others doing this work and also be supervised as you do some of this work for yourself. Your mentor will be responsible for this part of the scheme and will have pastoral responsibility for you.

Training and Involvement in Practical Service

You will be given a “behind the scenes” look at how churches run. You will be involved in a variety of practical tasks which may include: maintaining the church website and social media, room set up, cleaning, serving refreshments, placing orders for equipment, preparing publicity etc.

Pay: You will receive a £4,000 stipend for your employed work. The costs of your attendance at the North West training course and of the US placement will also be covered by the church.
