February 18, 2016

EPCA had commissioned a study to ascertain the condition of roads, which can bypass traffic from Delhi. The study on alternate routes (in Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana) looked at the following:

  • Concerned Authority (s) / Concessionaire;
  • Length of Alternate Route;
  • Start & End Point;
  • Condition of Road as per the following
  • Motorable Alternative Routes: Road in good motorable condition with the assumption of regular maintenance being undertaken;
  • Alternative Routes requiring Upgradation: Road in sub-standard condition and requires priority attention to decongest Delhi;
  • Number of Lanes;
  • Upgradations/Maintenance required, if any.

The alternative routes that have been identified for improvement /upgradation / strengthening are illustrated in the enclosed Annexure.

In the identified alternative routes around Delhi, some of the important and necessary routes for decongestion of traffic have been categorized as critical highways (in no particular order),which require urgent upgradation in order to make them motorable and a feasible alternative for non-destined traffic. This section details the requisite action points for the relevant governmental authorities at the central &state level towards expeditious upgradations of these routes.
