Updating Disability information for YTP Participants (2011 – 2013)

This biennium we restructured ourYTP database to collect and report both Primary and Secondary Disabilities. Because of this change, we need to ask that Transition Specialists update all studentrecords for Primary and Secondary Disabilities.

A little information about Primary and Secondary Disabilities

  • Students can have only one Primary Disability
  • Not all students will have a Secondary Disability
  • Some students will have more than one Secondary Disability

You may encounter one of three possibilities when reviewing and updating your student records

Possibility One:Your student has no information entered in either the Primary or Secondary Disability Field.

Solution One:Correctly enter your student’s Primary Disability. If your student has any Secondary Disabilities enter your student’s correct Secondary Disabilities.

Possibility Two: Your student hasno information entered in the Primary Disability, but they do have information in the Secondary Disability Field.

Solution Two: Review the information in the students Secondary Disability Field. One of these choices is actually the Primary Disability! Deselect this choice and then enter this disability in the Primary Disability Field. Make any modifications to the students Secondary Disability field that may be needed.

Possibility Three: Your student has information entered in the Primary Disability Field, but they do not have information in the Secondary Disability Field.

Solution Three: Verify that this student has the correct Primary Disability selected and that the student does not have any secondary disabilities. Enter secondary disabilities as needed.

How can I tell if I’ve entered this information for all of my students?

By viewing the High School Detail Report, there is a new category called “P.Disability”. If “P.Disability” has a “(Y)” next to it, you have entered the necessary information for that student. If “P.Disability” has a “(N)” next to it, you will need to go in and enter this students’ Primary Disability. There is nothing that will tell you if Secondary Disability has been entered correctly.

Do I need to do this for all new students entering the program?

Yes. All new applicants should have a Primary Disability, and a Secondary Disability if applicable.
