A RESOLUTION condemning the September 11, 2001, terrorist attack on America, and supporting the President of the United States, the United States Congress, and the military forces of the United States of America.
WHEREAS, on Tuesday morning, September 11, 2001, Americans were shocked to witness an unprecedented attack on America on live television; and
WHEREAS, the attack was so horrible that persons around the world watched in disbelief as innocent Americans and persons from more than 60 nations were ruthlessly injured and killed by terrorists; and
WHEREAS, as the twin towers of the World Trade Center crumbled in the financial district of New York City, as the Pentagon burned in Washington D.C., and as an airliner crashed into a field in Pennsylvania after brave and patriotic passengers ended the misguided suicide mission of the terrorists on Flight 93, it was apparent that the attacks on American symbols of democracy were actually attacks on our way of life and the roots of our free society; and
WHEREAS, America's firefighters, police officers, emergency response persons, servicemen and servicewomen, and ordinary citizens who volunteered, without thinking of their personal safety, responded to the tragedy by working tirelessly in dangerous and trying circumstances to aid the injured and to recover the bodies of the deceased victims who were unsuspecting targets of the terrorist attack; and
WHEREAS, citizens of the Commonwealth share a common emptiness and sorrow with the friends and families of the more than 4,000 persons listed as dead, injured, or missing at the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and on the four hijacked airliners; and
WHEREAS, America and all civilized countries face a new enemy of terrorist networks supported and financed by hypocrites who claim that their God approves of acts of violence and murder; and
WHEREAS, the events of September 11 have been followed by the spread of anthrax through the United States Postal Service, causing the deaths of unsuspecting Americans; and
WHEREAS, Americans stand united in one spirit under one flag as they prepare to respond to these horrendous attacks on innocent and unarmed men, women, and children; and
WHEREAS, the citizens of the Commonwealth of Kentucky stand united in their commitment to the war against terrorism and are dedicated to do their part as they have so demonstrated during World War I, World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, and the Persian Gulf War;
NOW, THEREFORE,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:
