A RESOLUTION adjourning the House of Representatives in loving honor and memory of the late Philip Bedford Austin.

With deepest respect and admiration, we pay homage and tribute to the late Philip Bedford Austin and we pause in silent reverence for his soul.

WHEREAS, Phil Austin departed this life on November 5, 2005, following a long and distinguished career in public service; and

WHEREAS, Phil Austin received his Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of Kentucky in 1963, and served as a special agent for the Federal Bureau of Investigation for 27 years; and

WHEREAS, in 1991, Phil Austin became an Assistant Director for the Office of Education Accountability, then in September of 1996 became an OEA Division Director in charge of investigations; and

WHEREAS, Phil served the citizens of the Commonwealth by presiding over the OEA staff during the transition period between directors and helped continue the development of that office during its fledgling years; and

WHEREAS, Phil's unique personality and playful sense of humor made him an exceptional addition to the OEA staff, until his retirement in 2004; and

WHEREAS, Phil Austin served his country and his Commonwealth with devotion to excellence and dedication to public service; and

WHEREAS, Phil Austin was a most dedicated and devoted husband to his much-beloved wife, Jackie Austin, whom he married at Carmel-by-the-Sea on August 5, 1977, and

WHEREAS, Phil Austin is also survived by his sister, Virginia Goodson; his nephews, Christopher Bates and Michael Helfrick; a niece, Breanna Helfrick; and an uncle, Armand Angelucci; and

WHEREAS, Phil Austin will be sorely missed by his family, colleagues, and host of friends;

NOW, THEREFORE,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

Section 1. The House of Representatives does hereby express its deep sense of sorrow upon the passing of Philip Bedford Austin, and extends to his family and friends its most heartfelt sympathy.

Section 2. When the House of Representatives adjourns this day, it does so in loving memory and honor of Philip Bedford Austin.

Section 3. The Clerk of the House of Representatives is hereby directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Ms. Jackie Austin, 14 Bersheba Drive, Louisville, Kentucky, 40205.
