A RESOLUTION adjourning the House of Representatives in loving memory and honor of Eunice Mitchell Harper.

With deepest respect and admiration, we pay homage and tribute to Eunice Mitchell Harper, and we pause in silent reverence for her soul.

WHEREAS, Eunice Mitchell Harper was born on January 2, 1910, a native of Greenup County, Kentucky, and she traversed these earthly bounds on January 30, 2002; and

WHEREAS, Eunice Mitchell Harper was the loving daughter of the late Thomas Milton Mitchell and Carrie Dell Burgess Mitchell, and she also was preceded in death by two loving brothers, Arthur and Albert Mitchell, and a loving sister, Edna Lang; she was the devoted wife of the late James Clifford Harper, and she was the loving sister of a brother, Orra Mitchell of Raceland, and a sister, Majel Rice of South Shore; and

WHEREAS, Eunice Mitchell Harper graduated from Duke University, and she was a retired school teacher with forty-six years of experience, including Principal at McKell Schools and Superintendent for the Raceland Independent School District; and

WHEREAS, Eunice Mitchell Harper was an esteemed member of the Greenup County community where she was past president of the Maloneton Homemaker Club; she was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eastern Star, Radiance Chapter OES #427, the White Shrine of Jerusalem #35, the Daughters of America and Rebekah Lodge #6, and the Epsilon Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma; and she also was a member of the Kentucky Retired Teachers Association and the Scioto County Retired Teachers Association; and

WHEREAS, Eunice Mitchell Harper was a devout member of First Christian Church of South Shore, where she taught Sunday School, and where her funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 2, 2002, with Billy Hayden and Frank Bryson officiating, and her burial will be in Bellefonte Memorial Gardens in Flatwoods, Kentucky; and

WHEREAS, the passing of Eunice Mitchell Harper has left a void that cannot be filled, and she is mourned across the length and breadth of the Commonwealth;

NOW, THEREFORE,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

Section 1. The House of Representatives does hereby express its utter sense of bereavement upon the passing of Eunice Mitchell Harper, and extends to her family and many friends its most profound and deepest sympathy.

Section 2. The passion, dedication, intelligence, and social consciousness Eunice Mitchell Harper brought to this Commonwealth will never be forgotten.

Section 3. When the House of Representatives adjourns this day, it does so in loving memory and honor of Eunice Mitchell Harper.

Section 4. The Clerk of the House of Representatives is hereby directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Mr. Orra Mitchell, 814 Raceland Avenue, Raceland, Kentucky 41169.
