A RESOLUTION adjourning the Senate in honor of Company B, 206th Engineer Battalion, Kentucky National Guard.

WHEREAS, Company B, 206th Engineer Battalion, Kentucky National Guard is a combat unit of 168 young Kentuckians who have been in harm's way in defense of freedom as America fights terrorism and oppression in Iraq; and

WHEREAS, the honorable men and women of Company B, 206th Engineer Battalion have valiantly answered the call to arms with bravery of heart, steadfast courage, perseverance, and adaptability; and

WHEREAS, the members of Company B, 206th Engineer Battalion answered their nation's call and were mobilized in December 2004 and deployed to Scania, Iraq in February, 2005; and

WHEREAS, Company B, 206th Engineer Battalion was trained to be a Combat Engineer unit, yet it deployed as a Military Police unit, demonstrating to all the dedication to mission success, intelligence, and adaptability that are the hallmarks of the Kentucky National Guard, and reflecting especially well on the officers, non-commissioned officers, and troops that make up Company B, 206th Engineer Battalion; and

WHEREAS, Company B, 206th Engineer Battalion performed the demanding and dangerous mission of providing convoy escort in Iraq flawlessly, facing insurgent Improvised Explosive Devices, sniper attack and ambush; and

WHEREAS, Company B, 206th Engineer Battalion also performed the formidable task of prisoner intake and screening at the Abu Ghraib Prison, a task fraught with danger and undertaken in the face of intense scrutiny ; and

WHEREAS, Company B, 206th Engineer Battalion accomplished its demanding missions without the loss of a single life and suffered only one serious casualty; and

WHEREAS, the members of Company B, 206th Engineer Battalion underwent the tedium, fear, rigors and trauma of extended low-intensity combat and left, freely, their lives, occupations, and most of all their families and loved ones in the Commonwealth of Kentucky behind for 14 months;

NOW, THEREFORE,

Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

Section 1. The Senate hereby salutes the members of Company B, 206th Engineer Battalion and their steadfast and wonderful families.

Section 2. When the Senate adjourns this day, it does so in honor of the members of Company B, 206th Engineer Battalion and extends to them and their families its heartfelt thanks for their service, their bravery, and their sacrifices.

Section 3. The Clerk of the Senate is directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Senator Walter Blevins Jr. for delivery to Company B, 206th Engineer Battalion.
