A RESOLUTION adjourning the House of Representatives in loving memory and honor of Kenneth Ray Mathis.

With deepest respect and admiration, we pay homage and tribute to Kenneth Ray Mathis, and we pause in silent reverence for his soul.

WHEREAS, Kenneth Ray Mathis was born on September 20, 1939, a native of Graves County, Kentucky, and he traversed these earthly bounds on February 18, 2004; and

WHEREAS, Kenneth Ray Mathis was the loving son of the late Charles Wesley and Mois Page Mathis; he was the devoted husband of 41 years to Mary Carolyn Summerville Mathis; he was the loving father of four sons, Ray Keith Mathis of Boaz, Roger Kyle Mathis of Benton, Rodney Kent Mathis of Mayfield, and Robin Kevin Mathis of Nashville, Tennessee; he was the proud grandfather of six grandchildren, Tori Elizabeth Mathis, Jackson Gage Mathis, Ryan Keith Mathis, Marley Catherine Mathis, Raychel Kourtney Mathis, and Jake Kyle Mathis; and he also leaves behind a loving sister, Genice Byron Gibson of Bardwell; and

WHEREAS, Kenneth Ray Mathis was an esteemed member of the Graves County community; he was a retired employee of 34 years with Continental General Tire, where he was instrumental in the establishment of Local 665 United Rubber Workers Union at the Mayfield Plant; he held various leadership positions with the local union including secretary, vice president, and chairman of the COPE committee; he served on the negotiating committee responsible for many of the union advances in benefits, safety and wage increases, and he was editor of the local union's newspaper, Worker's Voice; and he was a member of the Kentucky State AFL-CIO executive board, and was treasurer for the District No. 8 Council of the United Rubber Workers; and

WHEREAS, Kenneth Ray Mathis was an active and involved citizen; he was associated with the Western Kentucky Area Council and the local Mayfield-Graves County Summer Youth Baseball League; and he managed various youth sports teams, including baseball, basketball, and football; and

WHEREAS, the passing of Kenneth Ray Mathis has left a void that cannot be filled, and he is mourned across the length and breadth of the Commonwealth;

NOW, THEREFORE,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

Section 1. The House of Representatives does hereby express its profound sense of sorrow upon the passing of Kenneth Ray Mathis, and extends to his family and friends its most heartfelt sympathy.

Section 2. When the House of Representatives adjourns this day, it does so in loving memory and honor of Kenneth Ray Mathis.

Section 3. The Clerk of the House of Representatives is hereby directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Mrs. Mary Carolyn Summerville Mathis, 1405 Bellemeade Drive, Mayfield, Kentucky 42066.
