A RESOLUTION recognizing and commending the appointment of Regena L. Thomas as the 31st Secretary of State in New Jersey.

WHEREAS, it is with utmost pride and honor that the House of Representatives recognizes and commends the accomplishments of Regena L. Thomas, a distinguished Kentuckian, who has recently been appointed as the 31st Secretary of State in New Jersey; and

WHEREAS, Regena L. Thomas was appointed Secretary of State in New Jersey on January 17, 2002, being invested with full responsibility and authority to oversee the operation of the Archives and Records Management, the Center for Youth Policy and Programs, the New Jersey Historical Commission, the New Jersey Historic Trust, the New Jersey State Council on the Arts, the New Jersey State Museum, the New Jersey Martin Luther King, Jr. Commission, the New Jersey Commission on American Indian Affairs, the Governor's Office of Volunteerism, and the Trenton War Memorial; and

WHEREAS, Regena L. Thomas has served in several political campaigns in the State of New Jersey, has worked for the National Rainbow Coalition and its founder Reverend Jesse L. Jackson during his historic bid for the presidency of the United States of America in 1984 and 1988, and has received numerous awards and commendations related to her political activities; and

WHEREAS, Regena L. Thomas has served as a partner at IEM Message Management, Inc., has served as a consultant to the Democratic Governor's Association, has served as Director of Base Vote Operations for the Democratic National Committee, and has served as Deputy Director and Director of Constituent Services for Washington, D. C.; and

WHEREAS, Regena L. Thomas has served as a research analyst for the Kentucky Department of Labor, and faithfully served this body as a legislative analyst for the Kentucky Legislative Research Commission; and

WHEREAS, Regena L. Thomas is a native of Clinton, Kentucky, having spent most of her life in the Commonwealth of Kentucky, and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in University Studies from Morehead State University; and

WHEREAS, Regena L. Thomas has become a member of an elite group of African-Americans who have had the honor of holding such a prestigious post nationally;

NOW, THEREFORE,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

Section 1. The House of Representatives is indeed proud and honored to recognize and congratulate Regena L. Thomas upon her appointment as the 31st Secretary of State in New Jersey.

Section 2. With the appointment of Regena L. Thomas, the State of New Jersey will be represented by an individual whose integrity is beyond reproach, and whose deeds will be lasting contributions to prosperity in the State of New Jersey.

Section 3. When the House of Representatives adjourns this day, it does so in honor of Regena L. Thomas.

Section 4. The Clerk of the House of Representatives is hereby directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Regena L. Thomas, Secretary of State, Office of the Secretary of State, P. O. Box 300, Trenton, NJ 08625-0300.
