A RESOLUTION confirming the appointment of George Nichols III as the Commissioner of the Department of Insurance.

WHEREAS, pursuant to authority granted by KRS 12.040 and 304.2-020 and Section 69 of the Constitution of Kentucky, the Governor has appointed George Nichols III as the Commissioner of the Department of Insurance; and

WHEREAS, the appointment of the Commissioner is subject to Senate confirmation pursuant to KRS 304.2-020; and

WHEREAS, Governor Paul E. Patton appointed George Nichols III as Commissioner of the Department of Insurance on April 23, 1996; and

WHEREAS, George Nichols III is a resident of Shelbyville, Kentucky; holds a B.A. degree from Western Kentucky University and a M.A. degree from the University of Louisville; served as executive assistant to the Commissioner of the Department for Mental Health/Mental Retardation Services from 1984 to 1989; was the chief executive officer at Central State Hospital from 1989 to 1992; was executive director for product development for Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Kentucky from 1992 to 1993; was vice president of marketing for Athena of North America from 1993 to 1995; and served as executive director of the Kentucky Health Policy Board from December 1, 1995, until his appointment as Commissioner of the Department of Insurance; and

WHEREAS, the Senate of the Kentucky General Assembly finds that George Nichols III meets the requirements established in KRS 304.2-020 to serve as the Commissioner of the Department of Insurance;

NOW, THEREFORE,

Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

Section 1. The Senate confirms the appointment of George Nichols III as the Commissioner of the Department of Insurance.

Section 2. The Clerk of the Senate shall notify Governor Paul E. Patton, Room 100, State Capitol, and Mr. George Nichols III, 333 Comanche Road, Shelbyville, Kentucky, 40065, in writing, of the action of the Senate.
