A RESOLUTION adjourning the Senate in loving memory and honor of Dr. Maria Tuzzo Scorsone.

With deepest respect and admiration, we pay homage and tribute to the late Dr. Maria Tuzzo Scorsone, and we pause in silent reverence for her soul.

WHEREAS, Dr. Maria Tuzzo Scorsone was born in Balestrate, Italy on August 23, 1922 and departed this earthly life October 29, 2005; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Tuzzo was a doctoral candidate of Philosophy at the University of Palermo, Italy, received a Doctor of Philosophy in Romance Languages from Syracuse University, and was a graduate of the Palermo Conservatory of Music in Palermo, Italy; and

WHEREAS, she worked as an instructor at the University of Kentucky from 1965 to 1968 and as a Professor of Spanish and Italian at Eastern Kentucky University from 1969 to 1992; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Tuzzo was loved by her students with whom she shared her passion for music, language, and learning, leaving them with a gift that knows no price; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Tuzzo was an avid reader, wrote beautiful poetry, and was known as a pioneer in the immersion method of teaching foreign languages, and was the author many published essays and articles on poetry and comparative literature; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Tuzzo is survived by four loving children, Bruno Scorsone, Toronto, Canada; Analy Scorsone, Senator Ernesto Scorsone, and Sonia Scorsone of Lexington; a sister, Rosabianca Loverso, St. Paul, Minnesota; and ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, while the loss of this beautiful woman leaves heavy the hearts of her family and friends, her life will stand as an example of that which is good and that which endures;

NOW, THEREFORE,

Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

Section 1. The Senate does hereby express its deep sense of sorrow upon the passing of Dr. Maria Tuzzo Scorsone, and extends to her family and friends its heartfelt sympathy.

Section 2. When the Senate adjourns this day, it does so in loving memory and honor of the late Dr. Maria Tuzzo Scorsone.

Section 3. The Clerk of the Senate is hereby directed to transmit five copies of this Resolution to Senator Ernesto Scorsone, 511 West Short Street, Lexington, Kentucky 40507.
