UNMC Community Service to Research Award

Translational research is accomplished through complementary collaborations between academic investigators and the community to promote improved health practices and population health.

The Community Service to Research Award seeks to recognize the important contributions of community members, health practitioners, public leaders, and/or community organizations that have demonstrated an established record of service to the UNMC research enterprise.

What are the characteristics and accomplishments for nominated individuals or organizations?

  1. Service on UNMC Committees that involve research (e.g., Institutional Review Board, etc)
  2. Record of providing direct and in-direct support for UNMC research projects (e.g., funding partner on match grants, provides resources for investigator research, etc.)
  3. Collaboration with UNMC investigators on research-based solutions to population health problems.

Guidelines for nomination

  1. Nominees cannot be employed by UNMC or the University of Nebraska.
  2. The nominator must be a UNMC faculty member.
  3. Letters of support may come from UNMC faculty, alumni, or students.

Nomination process

A selection committee established by the Vice Chancellor for Research will review submissions and make a recommendation. One individual/organization will be selected for this honor.

Award process

The Vice Chancellor for Research will present the award at the Distinguished Scientist Award Ceremony. The award includes a plaque and monetary stipend.

Letter of Support

The letter of support should briefly state the relationship to the nominee, how the nominee has contributed to the UNMC research enterprise, and why you believe this individual or organization is deserving of recognition (500 words or less). If there are multiple nominators please attach a letter of support from each.
