Newsletter No 5 – 15May 2015

Broad Town 5 – Saturday 20th June
This event is the clubs biggest self-organised one of the year. Thanks to all those who have agreed to turn up, either as volunteers or participants. We’re aiming to get at least 50 Hounds entering the race; a sea of yellow & blue on the start line would be awesome! As an incentive; enter before the end of this month and get £1 discount on entry fee (paper entries only – available on the website). Full price will have to be paid if entering via Runners World.
Please recommend our club race to your family & friends. It would be great if all members could try and get at least 1 other entry.
If you aren’t running but are available on the day to help, please let Vickie know. Help also accepted from non-members .
Last weekend….
A good turnout was enjoyed by the club at the Commonweal 5, enlivened by the fact that Sam Kelly, Emma Langdon & Michelle Leighton lifted the womans team prize – Sam & Emma were second and third ladies home. Not to be outdone, the mens team of Ben Gregory, Andy Jack and Tim Purvey collected the male team prize. Andy also collected the prize for first male (40-49).
Unsurprisingly there were calls for an enlarged trophy cabinet to be provided at our new HQ later this year, but personally I’m not convinced that a wine rack full of empty bottles will be particularly impressive. Still, it does say much for the club .
Well done to all winners, and to all who took part. Links to photos on the website.
Several of our ladies took part in the Moonlight Walk in aid of Breast Cancer.
Well done to all those ladies who took on Snowden over the weekend as a precursor to an assault on Ben Nevis.
Special mention to Bob Stephens who stepped away from the norm and turned in a creditable 29:03 at parkrun Australia’s Rocks Riverside event. It’s always nice to see the club popping up in unexpected places.
The Fairford 10k this year is on Sunday 7th June at 7:30. Enter on line at

….and Mark:
Anyone is welcome to post their training sessions to promote others to join them or maybe just get some support. Also if people need coaching or advice for e.g. Technique, training sessions, nutrition or transition's then they should ask.
The idea of a ‘Transition’ demo day was suggested recently, and a date has still to be determined. A number of people have indicated that they would like to be involved, and, so would they please get in touch with Mark or Jacqui with ideas as to what they want to get out of the day.
Our next club run is on Wednesday June 24th- Chippenham Longest Day 10k.
Andy T’s Mayhem 180 Challengecontinues. As of a few days ago he still had around 50 miles to go swimming, cycling and running. The aim of the challenge is to travel from France to RWB under his own steam – virtually of course.
He is doing this to raise funds for Cancer Research UK, so please donate to the cause at
Marshals wanted! Cap’n Jase writes:

I know some are actually taking part.

On behalf of Ciaran thank you.

Captain Jase is still looking for runners to take part in this event, please let him know if you are interested. Details are in the last newsletter

Club Championship

Paul Appleby has very kindly updated the state of play regarding the Club Championship. It is ‘work In progress’, so there may be mistakes or omissions in the entry of the previous race results; if you spot a mistake let him know and it’ll be fixed.

Unless your name is Jase, in which case it’s ‘nil points’ .

Finally….
I’m thinking that the Hounds newsletter could maybe do with a name other than ‘Newsletter’ - what do you all think? Please send your ideas.
This is your newsletter so, if YOU have any interesting news or events that would be of interest to the club, please e-mail your preferred wording tome and I’ll do the rest.
