IED/SSS PARTICPATIONAGREEMENT 2014-2015

ThisisaStudentMemorandumofUnderstandingandCommitment(hereafterreferredtoas“Agreement”)forparticipationinAAP-STPandfinaladmissiontotheUniversityofMarylandthroughAcademicAchievementPrograms.ThisagreementoutlinestheconditionsofmyenrollmentandparticipationinSummerTransitionalProgram(STP)andsubsequentofficialadmissiontotheUniversitythroughAAP.ItalsooutlinestherequirementsthatmustbemetbymeinordertobeassuredfavorableconsiderationforofficialUMadmission.ItalsooutlinesmyopportunitytocontinuemyregistrationattheUniversityofMarylandduringALLsemesterspriortodeclaringmyCollegeMajor.Ihavereadandunderstandthatthetermsandconditionssetforthinthiscontractasstatedbelowarebindingand willbeenforcedbyAAPandtheUniversityofMaryland.

I willcompletetheprerequisitestodeclaremymajorby60creditsorbytheendofthefourthsemester whichevercomesfirst.DeclaringmymajorispartofmymandatoryadvisingofAAPandMUST beapprovedbyAAPandmyprospectivemajorcollegeadvisor.

Therefore, I,agreetocomplywiththetermsofthisagreementinsuccessfullycompletingSTP,retentionin,andgraduationfromtheUniversityofMaryland(UM).AsaparticipantinAAP,Ihaveread,understood,andaccepttheresponsibilitiesanddutiesasoutlinedinthisagreement.Ialsounderstandthatforthefirsttwo yearsofmyenrollmentatUM,oruntilIdeclareamajor,ImustcomplywiththeMandatoryAdvisingPolicyoftheUniversityasadministeredbyAAP,andsatisfytherequirementsofthe“conditionsofmyadmission”totheUniversityofMaryland/AAPwhichistosuccessfullycompletetheSummerTransitionalProgram(STP),successfullycompleteEDCP108E,EDCI288Dand288Eandcompletetherequirementsoftheskill enhancementclasses,counseling/advising,programactivitiesandtutoringasscheduledbytheprogramthefirsttwoyearsattheUniversity.

REQUIREMENTSFORTHESUMMERTRANSITIONALPROGRAM

I will:

1.Attendeveryclass(ontime),counseling/advisingsessionandscheduledactivity,exceptwhenexcusedbymedicaldocumentationorofficialprogramstaff.

2.Completeeveryclassassignmentneatly,appropriately,ontimeandincompliancewithinstructionsprovided.

3.AdheretothehonorcodeoftheUniversityespeciallyasitrelatestoplagiarismandrespectforuniversitypersonnelandproperty.

4.Draftafouryear planunderthesupervisionoftheAAP counselor/advisor.Thisplanwillbeupdatedandchangedasneeded.

Prepareforeveryclassonadailybasisandstrivetobefullyengagedinthelearningprocessineveryclass.

5.Conductmyselfinarespectfulandresponsivemanner,whetherintheclassroom,AAPoffice,oncampus,instudyhall,atallprogramactivitiesand/orotherenvironmentsthatmayreflectadverselyonself,family,AAPortheUniversity.

6.FullyutilizetheAAPanduniversityfacultyandstafftofacilitatemytransitiontotheUniversity,bylearningineachcoursetakenandinbecominganengagedstudentand goodcampuscitizen.

7.Earnatleast85pointsinthefive-partAAPskillenhancementareas(English,math,reading,andstudyskills,tutoring(studyhall)andcounselingandaBinEDCP108Etobefavorablyconsideredforadmissiontotheuniversity.

REQUIREMENTSFORTHEFIRSTYEAR

I will:

1.Attendallassignedskillenhancementclasses(English,math,andreadingandstudyskills),counseling/advising,andtutoringsessions.

2.AttendallscheduledDirector’smeetings(2persemester5:30-7:00p.m.).

3.AdheretoanyUniversityStudentRetentioncontractand/orAAPacademicrecoveryplanshouldIreceiveabelow2.0cumulativegradepointaverageanyofthefirstfoursemesters.

4.FollowtheUniversity’sdrop/addpolicyunderthedirectsupervisorandauthorityofAAPwhichrequiresthatIconsultwithandsecuretheapprovalofanAAPCounselor/Advisorpriortoattemptingto drop/addoradjustmyclassschedule.

5.Strivetodeclare majornolaterthan60credits.

6.Followtheprogram’spoliciesnottopledgeorassociatewithanyfraternity,sororityorGreekorganization;and/ororparticipateinanyorganizedUniversityathleticteamsportduringmyfirstyearwithoutwrittenapprovalofAAPExecutiveDirector.

7.Attendallscheduledadvisingmeetingsorcalledcounselingmeetingtoensureandmaintainpriorityregistration.

8.Seektheassistance/adviceofAAPandappropriateduniversitystaffwhenclarificationorquestionsareneededtoensureadherencetouniversityandprogrampoliciesandprocedures.

9.SuccessfullycompletetheEDCI288DandEclasseswithaminimumofCorbetterduringthe firstyeartoensureregistrationprivilegesaremaintained.

10.RegistertorepeattheAAPEDCI288Dor288EcoursetheimmediatefollowingsemesteroracademicyearshouldIfailthecourse withan “F” grade.

11.RegistertorepeatappropriatecoursesfailedduringthefirstyearasadvisedbyanAAPCounselor/Advisor.

12.Attendanendofsemester meetingwithmyCounselor/Advisortobeheldnolaterthanthe firstweekofMayofeachyear.

13.ParticipateinthecareerexplorationandAAPAcademicSocieties/professionalmentoringmeetingstofurthermyunderstandingofandnetworkinginmycareerinterestareas.

STUDENTREQUIREMENTSDURINGTHESECONDYEAROFAAP

1.ContinueanyandallclassesnecessarytocompleteEDCI288DorEifIhavenotcompletedtheclassattheendfirstyear.

2.RegistertocompleteEDCI288DorEifIhavefailedeitherclassattheendofthesemesterinwhichtheclasswasfailed.

3.Attendallscheduledactivitiesdesignedandplannedforsecondyearstudents.

4.Attendaminimumoftwoadvisingsessionseachsemester,includingmyfouryearplanassessmentmeetings.

a.Attendthepre-registrationsessiontoensuremypriorityregistrationprivileges.

b.Attendasecond yearexitinterviewwithmyCounselor/AdvisortobeheldnotlaterthanthefirstweekofMay.

c.SeektheassistanceofAAPstaffwhenclarificationorquestionsareneededtoensureadherencetoprogrampoliciesandprocedures.

d.AdheretoanyUniversityStudentRetentioncontractand/orAAPacademicrecoveryplanshouldIreceivebelowa2.0cumulativegradepointaverageanyofthefirstfoursemesters.

e.FollowtheAAPdrop/addpolicywhichrequiresthatIconsultwithandsecuretheapprovalofanAAPCounselor/Advisorpriortoattemptingtodrop/addoradjustmyclassschedule.

f.Strivetodeclaremymajornolaterthan60creditsandattendarequiredDeclarationofMajormeetingscheduledbyAAPwithvariouscollegerepresentativesduringthethirdsemester.

g.Strivetoearna minimumofa3.0gradepointaverageeachsemesterduringmysecond year.

h.Attendspecificskills’reviewandsemestersummaryworkshopsandorseminarspreparedandscheduledspecificallyofAAPsecond yearstudentsifmyGPAisbelow2.5

i.UtilizetheAAP math,EnglishandorReadingandStudySkillprofessionalswhenIexperiencedifficultywithanycoursesthroughoutmyundergraduatecareer.

j.ParticipateincareerexplorationandtheAAPAcademicSocieties/professionalmentoringmeetingstofurthermyunderstandingandnetworkinginmycareerinterestareas.

k.UtilizethetutorialservicesofAAPtosupportmyacademicsuccessindifficultcourses.

Ifurtherunderstandthattheacademicsupportservicesoftutoring,counseling,andskillsdevelopmentwillcontinueto beavailableto methroughoutmyentireundergraduateeducationattheUniversityofMarylandandI willavailmyselftosuchservicesastheneedarises.
