Reusable to-go containers were starting to be used at the beginning of the year

-Able to be washed in the dishwashers

-People throughout the school have taken some of the containers

-We are up to around 10 or 11 containers out of 96 of soup

-25 or so regular containers

-Got more in recently

-Saving 300-400 dollars so far from this

-We still have some containers from Earth Week

-Green Team wants some containers similar to the Buttery’s for the student kitchen

-Come in a dozen per case, special order

Green alternatives for purchasing:

-Mrs. Feldman got an email about back to school green alternatives for purchasing (

-Could sell “green” items from Spartan Shop

-Lunchboxes and other misc. things

-Could have all items needed for the beginning of the school year sold at Spartan shop

-Could be in a package format?

-Probably would be cheaper if you ordered in bulk. Would make Sayre a little money, but it’d help out parents a lot

-Alegra is going to talk to Mary Breeding about how to make options available in Spartan Shop

Solar bus tour throughout Lexington this weekend

-

-Price of Solar panels has gone way down, so we could save money for a solar water heater

-Chuck’s solar panels were all set up for ~5 grand he thinks

-Parents could donate 5 dollars to the school for the specific cause of getting solar panels

-Possibly set up a minor wind turbine?
Solly Van Meter works with wind turbines

-Could talk to him, only worry is money

-Maybe try to help bring in UK?

-Another worry is it’d have to be extremely high which would make people mad

Fundraising opportunity: Earthworx, Nov 20th

-As part of the Gallery Hop, we will have several artists displaying their work in the Buttery to fundraise for Kentucky Heartwood and for the Green Council here at Sayre. The artists all share a common theme: their work is local and made in a sustainable way. If students wish to design items for sale, we could also have a silent auction of student-made work. We could have a table run by students from the Green Team to help younger children make their own sustainable jewelry. Students from the Green Team can earn community service hours by helping setup and take down the event.

Possible movie at the KY again for Earth Week.

-“Food Inc.” is a possible choice for the movie

-Issues: Could be more expensive than Kilowatt Ours, rights would be more expensive, some harsh scenes - may not be appropriate to show everyone in the school.

-Could talk to Lexington Green Team (through LFUCG) to help out with cost.

Miscellaneous

-Mr. Barnes is going to talk to Brooks tomorrow to see if he can ask Office Depot to get paper a bit cheaper and get some green paper for our copiers.

-Mr. Barnes also is going to see if middle school uses a to-go system for student council lunches.

Next meeting: Last Thursday of the month, October 29 at 3:30 in Mrs. Wheeler’s room.
