University Studies-Leadership (USAL-LED) Application
The objective of the University Studies Degree is to provide students with an interdisciplinary academic degree with a focus on leadership education.The University Studies Degree includes a minimum of 120 credit hours that must include the following:
- Leadership Area of Concentration: 26 hours
- University Core Curriculum: 42hours
- Two Minors: 15-18 hours each
- At least 1 minor must be from outside the College of Ag & Life
- General Electives: 16-22 hours
Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible to apply for the USAL-LED major, a student must meet the following criteria:
- Must have a competitive GPR and be in good academic standing.
- Have completed less than 90 hours.
- Less than 45 hours: must complete majority of core curriculum and 1 core MATH
- More than 45 hours: must complete all core curriculum
- Complete the application and answer all required essays.
- Must have completed ALED 202 or be currently enrolled
Application Process
To complete your application, students must submit the following:
- Completed and signed application form – The entire application must be typed.
- Approval signatures for each minor – It is your responsibility to make sure you adhere to all minor requirements, application processes, and deadlines.
- Answers to essay questions
- Completed University Studies Degree Plan
Application Deadlines
We review applications each semester. To be considered a change of major for a particular semester, you must submit your completed application by 5:00pm on the following deadlines. You may submit your application at any time, but it will only be reviewed after the deadlines below.

Statement of Understanding:
Upon approval of my application, I understand that the courses listed on the attached degree plan constitute the requirements for completing the University Studies Degree. I further understand that:
- I must earn at least 36 hours of 300-400 level coursework at Texas A&M to be eligible for graduation.
- I must fulfill all requirements of the Texas A&M University Core Curriculum including two (2) writing courses and six (6) hours of Internationaland Cultural Diversity courses.
- I must have completed 2 years of foreign language in high school or two semesters of foreign language at Texas A&M.
- I am bound by all rules contained within the Texas A&M University Catalog that is my catalog of record.
I understand that the University Studies degree offers me flexibility in designing a program of study to meet my educational goals. Other Notes
- All Minor courses and Leadership courses must be completed with a C or better
- You need a cumulative 2.0 GPA to graduate
- To determine the number of General Elective Hours:
- Add together the total number of hours of your minors and subtract that total from 53.
- Example: 53hrs - (18hrs+15hrs)= 20 General Elective Hours
- Your USAL Advisor will confirm that the General Elective Hours are correct.
