Research Activity - Summary

In 1994 I obtained my first experiences in atomic physics at my diploma work. We have studied the atomic collisions using the Van de Graaff accelerator and high-resolution X-ray spectrometer at the J. Stefan Institute. In 1994 I got the assistance position at the J Stefan Institute and carried on with the ion-atom collision studies using high-resolution X-ray spectrometry. For my Ph.D. work I have studied the L-shell ionization of some 3d transition elements induced by collisions with heavy ions. The experimental part was done at the Paul Scherrer Institute in Switzerland in collaboration with the atomic physics group from University of Fribourg. Currently I am a member of the Microanalytical Centre where we have recently installed a new tandem electrostatic accelerator (Tandetron) which has been put in operation to improve the experimental conditions for the basic and interdisciplinary research in the field of low energy physics at J. Stefan Institute.

My research work has all the time been connected with the use of accelerated ion beams. Therefore besides my main field of study I have also acquired some experience with the IBA methods, particularly with the proton induced X-ray emission (PIXE) method.

In 2004 I have changed my main field of study from ion induced collisions to the photoionization employing synchrotron radiation. The high resolution spectrometer developed in Ljubljana was successfully employed for different fundamental studies of multiple photoelectron excitations and resonant inelastic x-ray scattering and also different analytical methods employing synchrotron radiation (RXES-Resonant X-Ray Emission Spectroscopy).
