University of Oklahoma, David L. Boren Invitational Round Robin

Date: January 14th and 15th, 2016
Location: Cate, Adams 301, the first building on the southwest corner of Lindsey St & Asp on the University of Oklahoma campus
Details:
Our goal is to offer a high quality round robin experience featuring both top competitors and excellent judging at no cost to the competitors. We want the students to see what the University of Oklahoma has to offer both in terms of debaters and debate educators as well as campus life and amenities. This year, we will be hosting students and their coaches on campus at the University Suites for the first time. These facilities will keep the competitors close to the action while also allowing everyone more time on the beautiful University of Oklahoma campus, all at a low cost. As usual, the tournament has no entry fee. We will cover your meals in the campus dining facilities, ranked in the top 5 of all campus dining facilities nationwide for many years in a row now. It offers a wide array of food options for any student’s dietary needs.
The University of Oklahoma debate team can offer hotel assistance for teams in need. If you believe that you fit the bill, please contact me at .
We will offer eight rounds of debate for the nine teams invited. Each team will receive a bye round. If we have a drop or last minute schedule change, we will adjust accordingly. Teams need not provide a judge, but if you’re available and would like to judge, please let us know. The judging will be provided by the University of Oklahoma debate coaching staff, University of Oklahoma alumni, and qualified local college debate coaches and competitors. Jason Russell, Assistant Director of Debate and Director of Recruiting at OU, will run the tabroom. All entries and information will be managed on tabroom.com.

Schedule:
In the past we have started late on Thursday. I think that this year I would like to start in the morning on Thursday to let folks move to Oklahoma City for Heritage Hall more quickly. Please indicate to me if this will be a problem for you or your students. I know that this will involve an additional hotel stay and if that’s a deal breaker for anyone, we can, as noted, assist with hotel costs. I worry that, in the past, we’ve sent some students to OKC for HH pretty late in the evening. I’d prefer not to disadvantage any round robin attendees for that contest if it can be avoided. If this will pose problems for your students missing too much school etc., let me know as soon as possible so that we can discuss alternative arrangements. At any rate, the latest we could start round 1 would be 1 pm on Thursday.
