Role Summary
The Head of Business Development and Sales will lead on our sales, business development and marketing strategy. The post-holder will define long term strategic business development goals, building key client and stake holder relationships, identifying business opportunities and maintaining extensive knowledge of current market conditions both within the UK and internationally.
As Head of the Sales, Marketing and Business Development teams, you will lead and inspire staff, identifying and achieving team objectives, whilst working alongside the Senior Management Team to implement and deliver against the UDOL Business Plan.
As part of the University’s Senior Leadership Team, you will contribute to the development, and support the delivery of, the University’s corporate strategy. The post holder will also be responsible for, both achieving and maintaining, budget stability through identification of new commercial opportunities and driving growth across UDOL’s activities.
Principal Accountabilities
·  Develop and execute business development and sales strategy to achieve sales targets and to expand the University’s student/partnership base.
·  Ensure the annual sales targets are hit / exceeded and grow the business engagement activities of the department.
·  Develop and maintain strong partnerships which provide the key channels to market in identified territories with responsibility for all regular communication activities establishing a key account approach. You will liaise closely with the University’s International Department aligning strategies for international market penetration.
·  Take the lead in building brand recognition in the area of online learning for the University, liaising as appropriate with the University’s Director of Marketing.
·  Lead and develop a high performing team in line with the significant ambition of the Department/University and congruent with the brand.
·  As part of the University’s Leadership Team ensure that UDOL strategies are aligned to and embedded within the University’s key strategies e.g. International strategy, Industrial Gateway Strategy.
·  Identify marketing, business development and sales resources in line with business needs and operate within an affordability framework.
·  Ensure that the University’s due diligence processes and related activity is properly in place to protect the University from contractual failure and reputational damage.
·  Have responsibility for managing student communications from enquiry through to alumni to encourage continued sales activity and to nurture students so they have a positive experience.
·  Ensure that UDOL students are embedded as part of the University’s alumni strategy, working across the University with key stakeholders to ensure a coordinated and effective approach.
·  Ensure that a framework is developed for enhanced market research activity to build knowledge around the developing landscape and competitor intelligence
·  Pro-actively seek funding opportunities to increase market share, developing bid capability within the team and liaising with the Central University Bid Team to co-ordinate activity and realize high success rate
·  Provide intelligence to inform future product and service development to successfully grow the business and market share in line with Business Plan ambitions.
·  Have responsibility for the development of a digital marketing strategy incorporating mobile, social, SEM/SEO activity for the online learning brand
·  Ensure effective processes and systems are in place to aid a first class student/partner experience and an efficient workforce.

Essential Criteria
Qualifications
·  Relevant first degree (or equivalent qualification) or comparable knowledge gained through professional experience.
·  Relevant professional qualification.
Experience
·  Commercial experience overseeing sales, business development and marketing activities including awareness of legal, financial, contractual and intellectual property issues associated with commercial projects.
·  Proven expertise in the planning, execution and leadership of new business strategies.
·  Significant Business Development experience leading successful sales teams in which you have motivated and inspired colleagues and key stakeholders.
Skills, knowledge and abilities
·  Ability to meet challenging targets and identify new business opportunities both in terms of products and new markets. Demonstrating strong strategic outlook and ability to develop and react to changing market forces.
·  Creative instinct and ability to think laterally about new business planning; focusing on our USP for maximum leverage in the market place.
·  Ability to manage multiple contracts and multitask complex requirements as necessary whilst being highly working flexibly and adjusting to changing priorities.

Business requirements
·  Willing and flexible approach to working hours, varying deadlines, peaks etc.
·  Willingness and ability to travel overseas and UK-wide to secure new business.

·  Relevant Masters Qualification.
Experience
·  Experience of leading on marketing strategy with sound knowledge of mobile, social, SEO/SEM and content approaches.
·  International business experience.
·  Knowledge of the Higher Education sector.
Skills, knowledge and abilities
·  Understanding of IT tools to improve efficiency and improve student experience.
