The School of Education and Social Work is one of the largest providers of teacher education in the country and has a long-standing reputation for producing outstanding teachers. The School offers Undergraduate and Postgraduate (including School Direct) Initial Teacher Training. The University also holds the Teach First contract for the West Midlands region and has recently been awarded the new contract for the West Midlands and East Midlands regions.
The School has a range of distinctive Masters programmes, as well as offering opportunities for taught Doctorates and PhDs. It has a growing reputation for research.
Early Childhood and Youth and Community Undergraduate programmes provide a strong non-ITT portfolio and this will be enhanced in 2017 with the commencement of an Undergraduate Education Studies degree.
The Department of Social Work moved into the School of Education in August 2016 and this offers the opportunities for continued development of a range of multi-professional programmes.
Key functions of this post (to be read in conjunction with the Job Description):
· Responsibility for curriculum subject and pedagogy within Primary ITT programmes
· Contribution to professional studies modules across ITT programmes
· Supervision of trainee teachers on professional placements
· Contribution to the initial training and continued development of school based mentors
· Quality assurance of a designated group of schools, as the institutional link tutor
· As appropriate, teaching on accredited and non-accredited Masters programmes
· Responsibility for the development of the subject area within the School and representing the subject area externally
· Providing guidance to middle and senior leadership in the School in respect of curriculum issues
· Development of the research base for the curriculum area, in conjunction with other colleagues
The successful candidate will demonstrate sustained success as a teacher and leader of learning within a school setting. Experience of working with teachers on professional development programmes and/or working as a tutor/mentor with students in teacher training would be an advantage. A first degree is required. QTS is essential and a higher degree preferred.
