Course Objectives

  • To introduce sociological and cultural studies perspectives on education.
  • Familiarize students with differing theoretical perspectives and empirical studies that illuminate a variety of issues pertaining to education.
  • Highlight the social dynamics of student learning in relation to schooling

Course Process:

A variety of instructional methods will be explored: seminars, lecture, small group discussion and videos. It is essential that students undertake assigned readings ahead of the classes since instructional methods are based on such expectations. Attendance is of course required.
